Biography And Accomplishments Of Joanne Rowling

Early Childhood

Joanne Rowling was born in Yate, England, United Kingdom on July 31, 1965. She lived with her father and her mother, as well as her younger sister named Di. Even when Joanne was little, she loved books and had the idea of being an author. She grew up around a family that encouraged her love of books. Both of her parents were very successful. Her father worked at a Rolls Royce Factory as an aircraft engineer and her mother was a science technician. At the age of six, Joanne wrote her first book. Then at eleven, she wrote her first novel.

Early Adulthood

As a teen, she graduated from the University of Exeter. At Exeter, Joanne studied French and even moved to Paris to study. When she got her degree, Joanne moved back to London. Back at London she worked multiple jobs, one of them being a researcher. She later moved on to teach students English. She learned Latin and French, which were two main things that she studied.

Inspiration

Joanne found her inspiration, oddly enough, on a seated on a delayed train heading to London Kings Cross station (which featured as a scene in several of the Harry Potter books). The idea hit her as she waited for the ride to begin: what if an ordinary boy, living with an awful family, was actually a part of something greater? From there her ideas only became to increase: What if his real parent were dead? What if the boy was a wizard and his guardians didn’t want him to know that?

Parts of her story came from her own life. Some of the monsters reflected her fears some of the magic was something that she wished she could use.

Building Upon Success

Five years after that day on the train station, Joanne Rowling had mapped out the ideas that she wanted to use in her seven-part series. Joanne didn’t really type her out her ideas, instead she wrote out her ideas on scrap paper. Whenever she had the chance, she would write. When she moved to Portugal, she took her notes and supplies with her. Then, when she moved back to the UK –with daughter, Jessica. Her marriage with her husband ended the same year Jessica was born– she had the first three chapters of Harry Potter written. Even with a solid outline, she wrote new ideas and continued with the plot whenever she could.

When she finished the first book, she sent those first three chapters to several publishers. Only one of the publishers sent back a letter asking to see the rest of her book. Her novel was published on June 1997. The company that published her book is named Bloomsbury Children’s Books. Joanne didn’t used her full name as the author. Instead, her authors name was J. K Rowling. The publishers thought it’d be better if the name sounded a little more masculine so the book could interest younger boys. While Joanne doesn’t have a middle name, she used the first initial of her grandmother. , who was named Kathleen.

From there, it was all up. Six other books were released after the first Harry Potter Series. Those novels where turned into an eight-part movie. Three other novels were released when the Harry Potter series was finished: Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, (textbook version) and Tales of the Beetle and the Bard. In 2012, Pottermore was released which offered new information and insight on the Wizarding World. Recently she released an unofficial eighth installment of the series called The Cursed Child, which was turned into a play. Currently, she’s working on the play right of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a trilogy.
