The Arab-Israeli Conflict: Contributing Factors And Possible Solution

Over the past 50 years, more than 21700 people have been killed as a result of war, Terrorism and growing tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis. The Israeli Palestinian conflict is a touchy, and complicated subject. A misconception is that it is solely religiously motivated and that it has been going on for thousands of years. In reality, it has been going on for roughly 115 years, and while religion is involved, it is mainly about 2 ethnic groups that claim the same land. The only solution to the issue is a one-state solution. The Arab-Israeli conflict is an extremely complex situation which includes a Convoluted History, Terror attacks, and ongoing tensions.

The history of the land known as Israel Palestine is exceedingly intricate and interesting. “Jews fleeing persecution in Europe wanted to establish a national homeland in what was then an Arab- and Muslim-majority territory in the Ottoman and later British Empire. The Arabs resisted, seeing the land as rightfully theirs. An early United Nations plan to give each group part of the land failed, and Israel and the surrounding Arab nations fought several wars over the territory. Today’s lines largely reflect the outcomes of two of these wars, one waged in 1948 and another in 1967.”-Zack Beauchamp for Vox. Many will tell you that the conflict has been going on for thousands of years, but that is untrue. In fact, it has only been going on for roughly 100 years. The conflict is due to 2 nations who claim the same land. After World War 1, countless Jews flocked to the land of Israel-Palestine in search of a homeland. “Zionism is Israel’s national ideology. Zionists believe Judaism is a nationality as well as a religion, and that Jews deserve their own state in their ancestral homeland, Israel, in the same way, the French people deserve France or the Chinese people should have China. It’s what brought Jews back to Israel in the first place, and also at the heart of what concerns Arabs and Palestinians about the Israeli state.” -Zack Beauchamp for Vox. Zionism is an idea that being Jewish is not only a religion, but an ethnicity, and one to be proud of. With Zionism came More Jews moving to Israel, in search of their homeland.

In the land of Israel-Palestine, Neighboring countries have been constantly attacking it for decades. This includes wars such as “The first Israeli-Palestinian Conflict” and: The seven days war. “In November 1947 the United Nations (UN) voted to partition the British mandate of Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state (see United Nations Resolution 181). Clashes broke out almost immediately between Jews and Arabs in Palestine. As British troops prepared to withdraw from Palestine, conflict continued to escalate, with both Jewish and Arab forces committing belligerences. Among the nations around Israel have attacked the nation on numerous occasions. The reason being that the Muslim nations simply do not want Jewish people at their doors.

The most infamous events were the attack on the Arab village of Dayr Yāsīn on April 9, 1948. The news of a brutal massacre there by Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern Gang forces spread widely and inspired both panic and retaliation. Days later, Arab forces attacked a Jewish convoy headed for Hadassah Hospital, killing 78. “-Written by the Editors for Britannica. Many lives have been given towards the defense of Israel. This includes Muslims, Jews, and Christians alike.

“Between February and July 1949, as a result of separate armistice agreements between Israel and each of the Arab states, a temporary frontier was fixed between Israel and its neighbors. In Israel, the war is remembered as its War of Independence. In the Arab world, it came to be known as the Nakba (“Catastrophe”) because of the large number of refugees and displaced persons resulting from the war.” Written by the editors for Britannica. As you can see, peace is almost impossible between the two nations. Thousands have lost their homes as a result of the conflict.

“Near-daily Palestinian attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers are causing fear and anger in Israeli society. The attacks do not fit into past patterns, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the violence as “a new kind of terrorism” carried out by individuals. -Ruth Eglash for Washington Post. Terrorism is something that happens on a day to day basis for Israelis and Palestinians. As a result, even more, are killed, which fuels rage for opposing sides. If the death of an Israeli soldier or Jewish settler is what the Palestinian assailants seek, the attacks are often failures. Most victims survive, and many of the Israeli soldiers, who wear body armor, are only lightly wounded, if at all. The same is not true for the Palestinian attackers, who are often shot dead.” -Ruth Eglash for Washington Post. However, most attacks do not result in the death of Israelis. Most deaths occur in the Attacking Palestinians, who are killed while attacking Israelis. “Total reported casualties from terrorist attacks 1948-2018 (including attacks not listed in the Chronology) are 3,705 killed and 14,736 injured (these figures include terrorists). Casualties in these terrorist attacks include at least 222 children killed and 240 injured (these figures are incomplete). So far the 2001-2006 wave of terrorism in Israel is the worst period to date.” -compiled by Wm. Robert Johnston at Johnston Archive. Deaths from terror attacks in 2002 were up to around 3 every day. Many innocent children are also often killed. “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreigners, and on public transport.” - According to UK.Gov. Many attacks come from non locals and are likely to occur in occupied areas.

With the conflict only growing, we cannot help but notice a trend. Palestinians attack, Israelis respond, peace talks are made, no solution, repeat. The only way out of this conflict is a one-state solution. “Once again, Netanyahu's unwillingness to accept a two-state solution barring several major concessions by the Palestinians is not a new development. Yet every time the prime minister reiterates that notion, the progressive media in the United States have a collective meltdown. One standard feature of these meltdowns is the proclamation that Israel is at fault. They're the occupiers; they're the oppressors. Nothing Israel does is ever enough to satisfy progressives. Giving Egypt the entirety of the Sinai Peninsula in 1978? Not enough. Offering to give 100% of Gaza and 97% of the West Bank to the Palestinians in 2000? Not enough. What progressives don't understand is that there's a simple reason Palestinian leaders refuse to make peace with Israel — they don't want it. They do not believe Israel has a right to exist”.-Frank Camp for Daily Wire. A two-state solution is meaningless and impossible. Giving a state to Palestine is almost like giving a state to Terrorists. The reason they are unwilling to negotiate is that they do not want to gain peace. The official charter of Hamas calls for the destruction of Israel: 'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” -Frank Camp for Daily Wire. Giving this state to Palestine will mean the destruction of not only innocent Jewish lives but also Muslim and Christian lives.

“... It claims the Jews are responsible for wars and revolutions: 'There is no war going on anywhere, without having their finger in it...They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there. With their money, they formed secret societies, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist interests.' Hamas recently added new material to its charter, claiming their enmity toward Israel is not related to Judaism, but to Israeli 'occupation.' But a spokesman for Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected that notion: 'Hamas is attempting to fool the world, but it will not succeed” -Frank Camp for Daily Wire.

Many will say that what is happening in Israel is Apartheid. This could not be further from the truth. Samaria and Jerusalem are the Religious Hearths for Christians and Jews. During the British mandate, the Palestinians were given Jordan. Israelis and Palestinians have a relationship similar to that of the US and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico can govern themselves and run themselves without trading weapons, and as long as there is no issue or terrorism, everything will be fine. The Jewish state has the right to exist; Palestinian leaders believe otherwise. That's why there's no peace. Despite this basic truth, the world consistently condemns Israel as if Netanyahu and the Israeli people are at fault in this conflict. Let's set this very real situation aside and construct an alternate reality. “It's 1940's Germany, and the Nazis are doing everything they can to exterminate the Jews. The world community puts forward a fix — a two-state solution in which Germany is divided. The Jews and the Nazis would each have their own territory. Does that sound insane? It should. The Nazis wanted to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth; the leaders and members of Hamas want the same thing. The only difference is that Hamas lacks the might and geopolitical prowess that Nazi Germany had. Were Hamas in a position of power, they wouldn't hesitate to annihilate Israel.” - Frank Camp for Daily Wire.

The solution to the issue I have pressed is one state solutions. Basically were Israel annexes the whole land, and makes everyone a citizen with the freedom to live their lives how they please. This is known as Caroline Glick's Solution. “The basic difference between the Israeli one-state plan and the pro-Palestinian one-state solution, as represented by its supporters, is that the Israeli one-state plan is based on fact and the pro-Palestinian one-state solution is pure propaganda. What the real demographic data show is that even if all the Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria [the Biblical term for the West Bank] are granted Israeli citizenship, Jews would still remain a two-thirds majority of the citizens of Israel.”- Ben Shapiro for Daily Wire.

In conclusion, although the conflict has many contributing factors, the best solution is a one-state solution.

Though War, Terrorism, and conflict haunt the land of Israel-Palestine, there is always hope. That our generation can fix it. The world our young generation has been left with is one of hate and destruction. It is up to us to fix it, the Issues of our parents will soon become our issues. For almost one hundred years, scholars have tried to fix this situation and failed, it is now our responsibility to finally bring peace to Israel-Palestine and stop needless deaths.
