They came through Ellis Island, New York City, the famous 19th and 20th century entry point to the “American Dream.”Immigrants came to escape poverty and poorness.To have a roof under their heads.They immigrated to a country that in those times offered a better life,full of new opportunities.A land of unlimited potentials.But it’s hard not to ask yourself “Is the American Dream still alive?” or has it become a Nightmare?

With economic progress, technological innovation, and changes happening politically, religiously, etc., it may be difficult for some to agree that the American dream is prospering. While many can see where those with that opinion come from, others argue that the American dream has always been and always will be, but times have changed making the pursuit of that American dream 'different' from what it ever was. Here's why the American Dream is still alive:

Regardless of how difficult it is to achieve the life you want, we are all free to choose what actions to take to get there. If your pursuit of happiness and the American Dream means having a family and creating a life of opportunity for your children, then it is your own choice whether to pursue your spouse, it is your choice to have children, it is your choice whether or not you educate yourself and provide a healthy lifestyle for your family. The freedom to choose is alive and well, and therefore, so is the American dream.

But on the other hand we should take in mind, that not eveyone has access to the available opportunities.As a matter a fact real opportunities are only available to those people who have knowledge and wisdom of such opportunities. This often only means ,those with money or access to the right people get to have a chance at such opportunities.

Another reason why “The American Dream” has become “The American Nightmare” is the fact that only the wealthy people can benefit from tha sistem. Let's face it, money is an important force behind many important decisions that are made every day. The family that has enough money to finance the lifestyle of the next three generations can certainly afford to pay for a better quality of life, providing more opportunities for their children and gaining access to the best talents and mentors for education.

Furthermore medical insurance in USA is one of the biggest issues for people that don’t have the money to pay it.Only the wealthy people can enjoy life, without having to worry about being atended properly if needed.

“Everyone had their own style of the American Dream,” noted F. Scott Fitzgerald in his novel, The, The Great Gatsby. In the 1950s’s, the American Dream was more about survival instead of success, but some people see success different some see success as money and others sees success as happiness and family. Whereas, living the American Dream with different races such as Whites and African Americans dealt with living the dream differently. In the play Death of a Salesman or Fences, the American Dream that anyone can achieve financial success and material comfort was how both races dealt with it, in different ways of life. In Death of an old salesman Willy Loman is a 60-year-old man who is deranged, self conscious and delusional. Willy hurry to conjure up things in the past that is unreal. His loving, loyal wife Linda Lowman is suffering because of her husband's delusions and egotistic ways. Sometimes, she feels that she is going in circles with Willy Lowman’s egotistic beliefs and outlook of success. Willy explains to his wife Linda that their 34-year-old son Biff, who, who is on his way to visit, has not done anything good with his life and he is lazy.

Although everyone may not agree, I believe the American Dream is still alive, there is a lot of opportunities for people.
