Example Of Reckless Behaviour: The Myth Of La Llorona

This myth originated from Mexico and is based on a tragic event that occurred to a young lady. The name of this myth is “La llorona” which translates to “The weeping woman”. This myth is a popular myth in Mexico, there are also many variations of this myth. This myth induces fear and provides and example of reckless behaviour and how it is easy to be tricked by someone. The myth states that a young woman who came from a christian household, moved to the city to get a job. She accepted a job offer as a maid and spent most of her days cleaning while the family’s son would supervise her. The young woman fell in love and she believed that he also fell in love with her. They engaged in premarital sex and she became a pregnant. Once she told him about the pregnancy he accused her of being a gold digger, and fired her. He made sure she could not return to the mansion, she had no choice but to return home. Once she returned home she tried to conceal her pregnancy. Her family found out about the pregnancy and began to insult her for nine months. This took a toll on her and she began to go mentally ill. One night she had enough and flat her home in the rain. When she reached the river she gave birth. The young woman traumatized and distraught through her baby in the river.

Once she realized her mistake she desperately right after the child crying, she was never able to get her truck back. People say that they see and hear her cry by the river. This relates to a myth because, dismiss involves the idea of a supernatural beings. It is said that if an adult does not like or has a certain dislike for children they will see her and she will come after them. They also say that if an adult miss treats a child she will follow them. Additionally, this could be considered a mess because people have been telling the smith through generations. Also this myth changes and has many different variations depending on the family or that you area where certain towns are located. Most myths occur in dark and eerie locations and this myth is no exception since it occurred in the pouring rain on a foggy night near the river. This myth is considered realistic because of all the eyewitnesses who have seen her. Also there are many people who have taken pictures or videos of her and have recorded her cries.

The myth has an affect on young women and some adults. This myth transmit the information that young women should not have premarital sex, or this will happen to them. This myth is not used as a part of a ritual or a ceremony. This myth induces fear and is often used to warn women paws. Also many parents use this myth to discipline their children they tell their kids that the young ladies spirit will come after the bad children. They also warn them and say that the lady will throw them in the river if they continue to misbehave. This myth also affects adults because it is said if one of them has a dislike towards children the lady will appear or scare them.

The moral lesson of this myth is to not decide certain actions in the heat of the moment because this can lead to dire consequences. Since the woman was distraught she took action and she immediately regretted it. The context of this myth matter to its interpretation because the Spanish communities are immensely dedicated to their children. Since this woman essentially killed her own child, this leads to the idea if an individual disgraced or harmed their child this supernatural being would appear.
