Persuading Society to Address Poverty: A Call to Action

Did you know that nearly half of the world population – which is more than 3 million people live on less than $2.50 a day? What can you buy with this amount? It is insufficient to feed their entire family, find a safe house or go to the doctor with this small amount of money. This is persuasive essay about poverty in which this topic will be discussed. Notably, more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty - no food, no money, no basic education, no choices, no support system and they have nothing; this often leaves only one conclusion - death. If you were one of these billion people, how would you live in this disadvantage condition every day? How would you feel if it was you?

First, I would like to begin by looking at some of the main causes of poverty around the world and expose the practical meaning that covers under this issue. So, there are three distinct aspects I will be discussing: education, safety and basic need. I know that many of you have heard about poverty, but can you actually define what does it mean? Poverty is a major concern in our world today where people cannot afford the basic necessaries required to survive. As we can observe, it is a very dangerous weapon to generation after generation, the biggest challenge facing the world today, affecting many people, even in developed countries like Australia. Nonetheless, even more surprising, many people like us are relishing a lavish life of luxury. The gap between the world’s rich and poor is some very common imagery that’s been around for 30 years.

Consequently, it varies in different social contexts through different culture, generations and history. Obviously, the question that we face here is just the challenge of our time. This distressing issue has existed for a very long time and to many extents it remains worldwide still in this 21st century. Today is the extraordinary time for us to join and support the wider community to come up with the most valuable solution for this topic. By now, it’s time for a drastic change to put an end for this battle. It’s time for a dramatic change to make a difference for another 30 years. It’s time for us to fight against poverty. We must stop this devastating issue immediately!

It is heartbreaking to discover about 1.4 billion impoverished people are majorly concentrated in the continent of Africa, Asia and South America. Thousands of impoverished people are dying from drinking unclean water, living in dirty environments and eating improper meals. They live with all of that insecurity. Think brothers and sisters, they die for reasons we can prevent. These people are trapped in a cycle of poverty, living in places offering little protection from the rain, wind and cold weather. They are unable to afford the proper healthcare and purchase enough food to nourish themselves and their families. Day-by day, they slept on cardboard without a bedroom; and when it rains, the rain will pour inside their house. Were you care about these people? Were many of you care every 5 seconds, a child dies as a result of hunger. Before you complain about the taste of your food, think about someone who has nothing to eat at all. On one side a lot of food is wasted but do you know what happens on the other side? Don’t waste food! Be thankful for what you have every single day!

With just one measure, an estimated 589 million sub-Saharan Africans live without electricity and cook by burning whatever they can find on the ground. An extremely poor family mostly only accesses the food they grow themselves. Finding food is a big challenge they have to face every day. With no employment, their finances continue to diminish and crime rates in these cities will increase as people grow desperate to survive. Their future is hopeless, relentless and undesirable. So have you ever thought how can they overcome poverty? Have you ever thought that how can we give credible hope to that billion people? 10 years, 20 years, 30 years; a large number of those living in poverty go up in the short run.

On the other hand, more than 70% of Africa’s secondary school – aged children do not attend school. One third of these children did not even attend primary school. Children in some Africa countries need four to five years to reach the same level of attainment for which their peers in industrialized countries require only two years. It is almost impossible for them to catch up. Imagine! These children have a destiny just like you and me (doctor, lawyer, and teacher). Imagine! These children have the right to go to school (knowledge, skill, and value). Imagine! A school day never happens to them (no classroom, no teachers and no friends). Imagine! How disappointed this person will be? They don't have enough money to feed themselves on a cheap pack of noodles, so how can they have money to buy a bag, a book or even a pencil?

It is very necessary to adopt a positive solution on an urgent basis for the goodness of humanity on this planet. Do you know how we can help? By taking simple actions and being the first person who volunteers to fundraise or donate wherever they need help. Even $10 or $20 dollar each times is enough to feed a family for a month. Specifically, all your donations will be able to help their families stop continuous hunger, create sustainable income and at least access to clean water, nutritious food and healthcare so the child can grow up healthy and strong. I know that many parts of the world have the same solution as I propose; however, people are so blind to the problem. That is why this solution hasn’t worked in the past. We need to be at least as serious as we were then.

Money is a quick solution in a short time but not a good way over a long period of time! Hence, the government should be a second leader to come up with plans to meet the minimum free standards. The government should be a second leader to upgrade the standard of health by providing health care systems every three months. The government should be a second leader to provide jobs for unemployed people to work. It’s very important that governments continue to work towards the full right to education and don’t allow plans to be delayed.

No matter where we are, who we are. We are a generous people and we have a moral obligation to assist those who are suffering from poverty. Right now, as young people and the future of the world, this is a good time to rise up. Rise up to protect poor people, rise up to end poverty and rise up to encourage each other to take action. It’s an opportunity to truly build a new world, new country and new community where each and every person can take a small step toward this global issue. I truly believe we have the power to make the best solutions. I believe that poor people still have the opportunity to coping through the darkness of night.
