A Report On Wimbledon Tennis Championship
Wimbledon is a very popular championship in the world of the sports. This competition is one of the most important ones. It is part of the “Grand Slam”. But, what is that? The Grand Slam is the set of the four most important tennis competitions, which are Roland Garros (Also known like Open of France, which plays in hard floor court), Australian Open (which plays in a beaten floor court), US Open (also played in a hard floor court) and Wimbledon Championship.
Wimbledon tennis championship is the only one of his category that plays in a grass court. Normally the championship lasts two weeks, but in case of rains it can lasts three weeks as much. Always starts six weeks before the first Monday of august, usually on june. During the tournament, the participants play simultaneous games in courts which are not the central one. To classify to this prestigious tournament the organizers have in account the results of the last year in tournaments of the same type in ones the players have participated. A curious date is that this tournament does not have in account the mark that the players have in the Ranking ATP. During the first weeks of matches the participants play to classify into the eighth finals, and during the second one, to be the ones who competes in the final. Between these two weeks there is the “middle Sunday”. That Sunday is a free day for the participants and for the public, the players must not to train. The tournament closes with 5 different finals: male individual, female individual, male doubles, female doubles and mixed doubles. Also it has other 3 categories, but the senior one is the most important. The winners of the 2018 edition were Novak Djokovic y Angelique Kerber. The history of this championship is too large. Its first edition was on 1877 and there will be a competition on 2019 summer, which will be the 142th edition.
Wimbledon is the oldest tennis championship, and because of that is so prestigious. It is organized by the 'All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club' and his official enclosure is near Church Road, a city on United Kingdom. But this was not its first location. Its first location was near Worple Road, also in England. It was not until 1922 when the tournament moved to its actual location. Its courts have live a World War and almost went out of that unscathed, but “The central court” (the one where the finals are played) and the equipment room were bombed and reconstructed. Its enclosure also has been witness of historical matches and has some records. The longest match ever played has been played on its court by the North American John Isner and the French Nicolas Mahut on 2011 and how I have said before is the oldest tennis competition. Any other competition which is not Wimbledon Championship must not be played on these courts, but in 2012 the organizers did an exception to the London's Olympic Games. Its enclosure has been constructed for years, as the tournament have been making more prestigious, bigger, knower and older. It has some courts which have not site for watches, but the most known one is “The Central Court”. There are played the second week´s matches, and there is site for 15,000 watches. Wimbledon also is known because of the curious traditions that it has. One of them is that the publicity of any business or mark, it’s prohibited.
The players (male and female ones) have to wear with white clothes. The male ones have to wear trousers and the female ones skirt and only can have the clothing brand´s logo (in black). The male participants always are named by their surname (When the referee says the points, when the awards are given. . . ) and the female ones also are named by their surname, but they are preceded by a “”Miss” or a “Mrs”, depending if they are married woman or singles ones. Another typical tradition are the strawberries with nate. This appetizer is eaten on the breaks between matces. All tournament mornings a big quantity of strawberries is carried from Kent for the watchers. It is believed that the king George V introduced the tradition, but even though that appetizer has not been eaten since the first edition of the tournament, it has been eaten since one of the first ones. The tradition was born because the strawberries are one of the summer season fruit. The last tradition that I will mencione is that the two most important prizes (The individual male and individual female ones) are given in independent events. The women are primed with a golden tray, named the 'Venus Rosewater Dish' and the men are primed with a golden trophy. These trophies are not which ones that the winners take home. The two pieces are replaced with a replique and only are used to the award ceremonies. The winners and the participants receive a monetary prime. The winners win 1,600,000 pounds (almost 2 million of euros), the participants who arrive to the final match 800,000 pounds (1 million euros) and the semifinalist 400,000 pounds (500. 000 euros). Also the participants who are classificated for the championship receive a prime of 23,000 pounds (26. 000 euros).
The English people are too proud of this tournament, but a curious date about this tennis champion is that the English male players were for more than 70 years without win the championship. Andy Murray, in 2013, was the first English winner since Fred Perry, in 1936. And in female ambit the situacion is not much better. Virginia Wade was the last winner, in 1977. Usually the tickets for this event are not sold like the ones of other famous competitions. This is a very important tournament and the tickets are usually got in giveaways. To participate in this tournament is the dream of all of the young tennists and is only got by a few ones. This competition has passed to the tennis history and will be always remembered. The most important tennists have passed for this tournament, for example players like the Spanish Rafael Nadal, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, the Swiss Roger Federer, the North American Venus and Serena Williams sisters and more. This competition usually has been compulsory for the ones who has been or are number one on a world scale.
