A Research On Tim Hortons Expansion At Dubai

Research Question: How can Tim Hortons expand their business by delivering to many more locations in Dubai?

Methodology: For this research task I will do primary research by doing an online survey asking my friends & mutual friends, if Tim Hortons started delivering in or near your area, would you order from them? I will also go to a local Tim Hortons shop or contact them online, by email. I’ll ask a few questions like if they would ever consider expanding their business by delivering to many more locations in Dubai.

Anticipated difficulties: I might have difficulties contacting them online since I can’t find their email and time management could possibly be hard to manage since I have exams the next coming days. Action Plan: By Thursday I’ll have my survey results in a pie chart completed. By Friday I will have my introduction, methodology & finding and analysis completely completed. By Saturday I will have my conclusion completed. And lastly, I will have my essay up by Sunday morning.

Introduction

Tim Hortons is a Canadian coffee shop, the company itself was founded in Ontario in 1964 by a Canadian hockey player named, Tim Horton. The shop is known for its coffee and DELICIOUS donuts, they serve a 3variety of food and beverages, including a breakfast menu, sandwiches, soups and an array of baked goods. Tim Hortons is the largest fast-food chain in Canada, with more than three and half thousand stores there in 2013 – more than twice as many as the world’s largest fast-food brand, McDonald’s. The reason to why I chose Tim Horton’s was because people/friends I personally know love Tim Horton’s. I’ve realized that Tim Horton’s does not deliver to many locations in Dubai. So, business wise, how could Tim Horton’s expand their company? By delivering to many more locations and areas in Dubai. That way, more attention will be brought to the store and they will grow as a business way faster than usually. In 2013, Tim Hortons was the second largest coffee/doughnut company in Canada, beating Starbucks, a very popular coffee shop all over the United States, UK, Canada, Dubai, Europe, etc.

Methodology

There are many ways to expand a food company. As mentioned before, they could deliver to many more locations. There are many more methods like, opening a new store in a new location, targeting other markets (merging or buying a company), lastly, they could expand globally. Yes, there are many Tim Hortons in the US & UK, but for example, in Greece there isn’t a Tim Hortons. A lot of tourists, mainly from the us & the uk visit Greece. Why not open a Tim Hortons near the big attractions in Greece? That way the tourists themselves can enjoy a doughnut! Another example is, they could expand online. A lot of teenagers and young adults use social media daily. They could make a website, an Instagram, Facebook or a twitter page! It would attract way more clients and the business will grow much fast.

One problem I had was I couldn’t find an email address to contact them and they don’t have an Instagram page or a website. I visited a few websites about Tim Hortons in general as a company, and the ratings were very good. I researched on how to expand a business and the few examples I listed above are reliable and useful examples on ways on how to expand a business.

Findings & Analysis

The pie chart in the bottom is a one question survey. I went around my business class asking, ‘If Tim Horton’s started delivering near or to your area would you start ordering?’ 83 percent of the class said yes, and 17 percent of the class said no. Clearly, if Tim Hortons would consider delivering to many more areas in Dubai they would make money fast, more attractions, etc.

SWOT analysis:

Strengths:

  • Tim Hortons has a high level of service in their shops
  • Really good quality of food and beverages
  • Making millions of dollars a year
  • Financial discipline
  • Investment in stores.

Weaknesses:

  • In Dubai, they don’t deliver to many locations, which they could start considering doing that.
  • They don’t have a website, well when you type in Tim Hortons (UAE), something completely irrelevant comes up.

Opportunities:

  • They should consider improving their website, they can create an Instagram or a Facebook page
  • They can consider delivery to many other locations, as mentioned before.
  • They should consider a horizontal integration, when a business merges with or can even take over another business that is in the same industry and at the same stage of production.
  • Healthier options.

Threats:

  • Competition, there are many other stores around the world that are in the same industry.
  • Not every business or company is always making a lot of money a day or month.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think the research in this essay is reliable, but I think I could’ve gone more into depth with my methodology. The most difficult part of the whole essay was trying to find an email or an Instagram page to contact them. That didn’t really matter though since I found many sources on statistics of the business they’re strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, lastly, I read reviews on the stores service, cleanness, food and beverages. I really enjoyed writing the introduction and the SWOT analysis! I used Criteria B well because I did my research and Harvard referenced it. I completed majority of Criteria C since I went around my class and asked my peers if they would order from Tim Horton’s if they started delivering to their area. What I didn’t complete in Criteria C was trying to find a way to reach out to the manager of the company which was unfortunate because I had many questions to ask. tim hortons. 2018. statistics and facts.
