A Review Of The Film Slumdog Millionaire

The tittle of the film is “Slumdog Millionaire”. Danny Boyle is the director of this incredible film. The film is released in 2008. the running time of the film is 2 hours. This movie is an adaption of a novel Q and A by Vikas Swarup.

The film is sad and heartbreakingly, but a truthful movie. The film is about Jamal Malik an Indian boy who joined the TV show (who wants to be a millionaire). The whole film is about the flashbacks that Jamal had. Jamal has been sent to the local police station after the first part of the show, because the show host thought that Jamal might have cheated. But jamal denied it and said that he knew all the answers. The police replayed the whole episode of the show, Jamal was able to answer on the questions based on things that have happened through his life. In the movie we are introduced to Salim and Latika. Salim and Jamal were brothers, and Latika is the first and the only love of Jamal, but the three of them have been separated from each other. In each question they asked him during the show,he treid to related to certain events that took place during he’s life. Jamal had to tell the police officer about his whole life to prove that he knew the answers. In the end, the police officer shows him mercy , by believing in him and sends him back to the TV show.

Before watching the movie my thoughts of India were that it was a very loud and colourful country and as we watched it was true, but what I did not expect was seeing how India was a very poor country. where the largest part of India lives harsh life. i got shocked when i realized that you can find rich people who lives right next door to slums.

Jamal Malik: The protagonist of the movie, Jamal, is an 18-year old who decides to enter the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? contest, all in order to get closer to finding his beloved, Latika. His answers for each question on the gameshow are mysteriously connected to his life experiences. On the eve of his final victory, he is tortured and questioned by the police to investigate whether he is cheating in some way. They watch the entire show from the previous night, interrogating him about how he knows the answers, and he takes them through his biography. He grew up in a slum, where his mother was killed in the Bombay riots, after which point he was brought into a gangster’s begging ring with his brother Salim and a friend, Latika. After escaping from this life, he has made his way in the city, cut off from everyone he knows and working in a call center. Jamal has a quiet confidence and a sense of his own destiny, and this calm faith is what leads him to victory ultimately.

Latika: The love of Jamal, Latika is a young girl, who was sold to prostitution at a young age. She has been abused and neglected most of her life, and only her friendship with Jamal has kept her going. In the end, she is captured by crime chief Javed. Despite of all the abuse she facing, she still love Jamal.

Salim: Brother of Jamal. He is extremely selfish and desperate to gain power and wealth, he could do anything to become rich, he even soled out his own brother Jamal. While Jamal resists the life of a gangster, the easiest way to even improve from slumdog status, Salim embraces it. At a young age, he picks up a revolver and kills Maman, a gangster, and from this moment on, he becomes a gangster himself. Salim and Jamal have a complicated relationship, and Salim betrays him at various moments. But he makes up for his mistakes at the end of sacrificing himself to free Latika.

To conclude I think the film was wonderful and it should be seen. The film showed us almost every side of how the rich and the poor live in India. slumdog milionare is a film that will surprise you because at the end of the film they showes that there still hope for the poor children who lived in the slums. the film gives us a clue about how harsh the reality of how some people live. I really would give this film a ten out of ten.
