Introduction

Teaching EFL is about teaching English language skills to people who live in a non-English-speaking environment. English is accepted as International language in the world. The importance of English as international language eases people to communicate across their nation. However, English is placed as a foreign language in Indonesia. The government also puts English as a subject material in formal and informal institution start from kindergarten even from playgroup until the university. Furthermore, in teaching English as a foreign language, teacher teaches English bilingually. In other words, all the explanations are not delivered only in English yet there will be any students’ native language used to clarify the explanation. Indonesian students belong to EFL learner. Nordquist (2017) defines EFL learners as a learner who wants to study English in order to be able to use English for communicative purposes. EFL is usually learned in environments where the language of the community and the school is not English. This situation makes Indonesian students tend to face difficulties in learning English as well as English is learned for communicative purposes yet the environment in the school is not supported Indonesian students to practice their English, they also tend to shy to speak English with their friends inside the classroom. In this case, teacher takes role as facilitator to solve the problem. A teacher should be able to make an enjoyable and active learning atmosphere during teaching and learning activity. A teacher should be creative, innovative and flexible to use more than one strategy in teaching. Research revealed that implementing various teaching strategy could decrease students’ boredom and motivate students to learn. One of the strategies that can be used is by using media in teaching and learning activity. Media in teaching is a tool used by teacher to deliver information. Media is the important instrument that could determine the successfulness of teaching and learning activity. It is because the existence of media directly gives students a dynamic process in learning. He also said that media in teaching is a tool that is used to deliver materials of the lesson in the classroom. Besides, media is divided into two based on its function, those are instructional aid and instructional media. As an instructional aid, media is used to help teachers in delivering and clarifying the delivered material. It can be in form of graphic, maps, picture, flip chart, and the example of the real things. Meanwhile, as instructional media, media is used to learn such as TV, film, music, and internet.

heoretically, media in education field comes from the Latin “medius” which means “middle” or can be said as intermediary of a message from the sender to the receiver. However, Gerlach and Ely explain that in a big line, media belongs to human, material, or action that could create a condition where someone are able to gain new knowledge, understanding, skills, or attitude. If the media contain messages or information related to the lesson and used in education field, it is called as media in teaching. Arsyad as cited in said that media in teaching is tools used by the teacher to deliver messages or information that contain information about the lesson. As well as Arsyad, Pringgawidagda said that media in teaching is a tools or means used by teacher to deliver the material to the students. Further, Sadiman said that media in teaching is everything that is used by teacher to convey the information related to the lesson that will stimulate students’ thinking, feeling, interest and students’ attention towards the lesson during teaching and learning activity. However, teacher should be prepared well in using a media in the classroom. Media should be well prepared so that the information or the messages contain in the media well delivered. Using media in teaching and learning process could engage students’ interest, motivation, stimulate them to learn and carry out psychologist effect to the students. Besides, media can help students to increase their understanding by seeing the depiction of the materials through media. This study emphasized e-learning as media for teaching. However, using e-learning as media was a challenge by the students because the students need to be independent in order to manage themselves to be involved in some e-learning platform. According to Benson as cited by Asmari (2013) learner autonomy is the ability to take charge of one own learning. This statement is also supported by Alonazi (2017) which is stated that learner autonomy is the responsibility of the students for their own learning. This study focused on how the students handle themselves to be indepenent in e-learning

Method

This study was a descriptive study in which it emphasized on qualitative data. This study was taken place in the English Language Education Undiksha, especially in E-class in 5th grade year 2018. This study used interview guide. Those were the list of interview guide: 1. What things do you need to prepare to face e-learning? 2. What problems do you face during e-learning discussion? 3. How you manage yourself during e-learning discussion?

Data Analysis

The data were analyzed descriptive qualitatively by using the theory used in this study. This study also used Miles and Huberman data analysis which included data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing or data verification.

Finding and Discussion

Based on the data collected by using interview, it was occurred that the things that they needed to prepare in order to face e-learning were laptop and internet access because without laptop, the studente could not do discussion and without internet access the students also could not participate in e-learning discussion due to internet connection. The problem faced by the students during e-learning discussion were time management and internet connection. In terms of time management, the students must always keep up to date with the information in e-learning discussion. If not, it would led the students to be left behind. In terms of internet connection, the students needed to find wifi in order to establish the connection to e-learning platform. The problem was if the connection was limited or even no internet connection. It meant the students could not participate in e-learning discussion and it was impolite to leave the group so sudden. The solution for those problem were first the students did discussion in their own group before entereing e-learning discussion to make sure everyone ready to discuss in e-learning platform. Second, they needed to find a spot which had a good internet connection and all of them were staying together in that spot.

Conclusion

The things that the students need to prepare to face e-learning discussion were laptop and internet access. The problem faced by the students during e-learning discussion were time management and internet connection and the solution for those problem were first the students did discussion in their own group before entereing e-learning discussion to make sure everyone ready to discuss in e-learning platform.
