Abstract

It’s hard to imagine the world without social media in todays world. We use it for a variety of by keeping in touch with friends and family, promote ourselves, express our thoughts and opinions to the world, connect with people who are abroad, keep up with celebrities and brands and much more. I'm glad to have an opportunity to show personal thoughts and give answers on “How has social media changed the way we communicate?” in this essay.

Over two decades methods of staying contact were only by sending a messenger to deliver the message in written correspondence which was started by Persian civilization which is still used around the world today, then came the telegraph which delivered only short messages, later the telephone was invented and thanks to our scientists we also got super computers which created network between the computers network as technology advanced into emails, worldwide net and then our Social Media.

Over 2.8 Billion social media users around the world which only means over a third of the earth’s population is using some way or the other using social media to communicate, making huge impacts for not only day to day communication but also a form of business which follows through.

Isn’t it fascinating how social media has changed the way we communicate in today’s world? We know that people’s form of communication was face to face or as we say in today’s modern world one-on-one. Then came the telephones thanks to our great scientists we also started using text messages as a form of communication. After this is where our Social media hit in which is exactly what the topic we are going to work on from how permanent posts went temporary stories. From viral stories to charity challenges like “Ice Bucket Challenge” and “Love has no labels”.

About Social Media

Social Networking in the newer edition of Oxford Dictionary would say it’s the use of given sites and apps to interconnect casually with other individuals, or to find being with similar interests to the same as yours. But what is my definition its nothing, but a human feeling of sense of belonging to a community or a group that’s what social media is for me, the younger generation.

In modern times’ a tenure that’s now been a huge share of influence in our social values. Technology now helps what, how and who we converse with let’s say LinkedIn in a professional way and Facebook in a social way. As you see whenever you say Social media Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram comes in mind.

Do you know it’s not just Facebook or Snapchat? Now there are other sites and apps that are being developed and grown meeting various needs and demands throughout the globe like matrimony, dating sites, YouTube as well. We all know Social media is come a long way to reach to us. These few decades its has beautifully shaped and groomed our communication skills and methods, leading to what might be a rise in the future with changing and adapting lifestyles. In 2003 for business individuals and organizations LinkedIn offered large-scale, open access way to connect with existing and future clients. Thanks to Mark Zuckerberg who launched Facebook in 2005 it became the key to what we call today Social media which boosted up LinkedIn with it.

As we know about “Six Degrees” which was not doing well at that time due to limited access to the internet for users around the world that only who were able to afford the service had access to it. Due to Social media you could segment the market based on location, interests, likes, gender and age groups. Depending on this data you could segregate on reaching out with information with building connections; to increase brand loyalty and repeat business or keep promotions to attract new audiences. You can investigate customer issues and manufacture a network of vocal fans that advertise your business for you. Web-based social networking's adaptability would achieve tremendous chance to organizations.

About Modern Communication

Cellular Phones

Since their introduction in the late 1980’s they have contributed to communications between individuals due to the capabilities it possesses. These include Wireless calls, text messages, ability to send and receive email, capture moments via camera and carry over conversations hand free by the Bluetooth technology.

Skype

Skype is another modern communication which allows users to make phone and video calls along with instant messaging via internet connection in real-time. Both Business and individuals have benefitted from this as especially connects people around the world let it be a potential candidate or a faraway family member and a possible Long-Distance friends and relationships. It has replaced letters to a pen pal as of now you can see them in person.

Instant Messaging

Instant messaging in todays world is WhatsApp that comes to mind this is how as we know we can have real-time communications with each other via short written or spoken voice messages delivered as soon as you enter the button send. MSN, Yahoo, Facebook and America Online to name a few that was/ is still instant messaging today.

Twitter

Twitter is a platform where you can post your views how you feel about them let it be politics, food reviews, opinions on life and other related content. It was created in 2008 and its completely not like Facebook or Instagram and thankfully its free but I am not a fan.

Conclusion

It's hard to foresee anything precisely, but if one thing can be said about the future of social media, it will presumably be progressively customized and less noisy. Over-sharing will be to a lesser degree an issue and filtering out unessential data will turn out to become a stronger trend.

A social media platform like Snapchat is changing social media by sharing status like videos and photos to a limited time of 24 Hours to specific people, inspired at this Facebook and Instagram also started Stories feature.

If anything, social media networking is likely going to push more toward transient sharing for quick, privately without the worry of manually deleting online personal data. The weight of collecting huge amounts of preferences and remarks on ordinary web-based life posts additionally plays a colossal factor, proposing that increasingly easygoing types of social sharing, for example, through stories, could be the online life method for the future.
