Adoption: Negative & Positive Aspects

There are many young adolescents in modern day society falling pregnant by accident or on purpose. At a young age this could be caused by many different factors. Some of the people affected are unable to care for a baby due to the major commitments that come along with a newborn. However there are options that can impact your decision on whether or not you want to take on the roll of being a parent, these include, parenting, adoption and abortion. These 3 options however, can lead to negative and positive outcomes. Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Having a newborn at a young age can be a very tough task, as you may not be prepared for the responsibilities and change of routine that come along with a newborn child. For example, if you are attending school 5 days a week and are trying to study and maintain good grades it would be very hard to do whilst trying to look after a baby. Other negatives include, loss of money, loss of personal time, and loss of sleep. However, if you do think you are capable of dealing with a newborn at such a young age, there are positives. These include, starting a family, new challenges and adventures, personal and emotional growth and learning vital life skills on how to look after a baby. Parenting is a very hard task to take on at the “right” age let alone a young adolescent teen.

At a young age your emotions are all over the shop and can lead to more stress, which you wouldn’t want while trying to look after a baby. I personally believe having a child under the age of 18 should be illegal because at the age of 18 and below you are unable to make decisions for yourself, let alone a newborn child. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks. Abortion is a very touchy topic as people have many different opinions on it and it can lead to serious repercussions. As you’re about to read, I have a very strong opinion on abortion. At the end of the day, a mother has to go through the labour pain and other issues involved with parenting and dealing with responsibilities. Others can’t understand the level of trauma and stress that a woman may be experiencing in her personal life. She is the only person who knows what is happening in her life and if she would be able to take care of the unplanned child or not. We all know that it’s nearly impossible to raise a child without the support of a family. To an extent, the life of the baby depends on the mother’s health. Also sometimes the mother may be in risk of severe injury or even death from delivering a baby and this may be her last resort. Other positive factors include, Technology, technologies have enabled disease detection amongst unborn babies.

Giving life to an unhealthy baby and watching it suffer can mess up the family’s wellbeing as well as the newborn child. Another major factor is rape victims; some of the rape victims can be minors and they wouldn’t be mentally or physically prepared to take care of the newborn baby. Why should such victims go through the process of looking after and bearing a child, which is the outcome of some incident that happened during their life? Negatives include, not giving someone an opportunity to live their life, running the risk of not being able to fall pregnant again and abortion can lead to health implications, the worse scenario being death. Although I see the negatives of abortion, I believe it should be up to the mother as it’s there baby and they have to go through the process of childbirth. If the mother is unable to have the baby because she could die or the baby may have a disability it should be HER choice. We also need to take into consideration the point about minors being raped and may be unfit and unstable to look after a newborn that wasn’t even planned. Adoption is a way of providing the security, permanency and love of a new family when it is not possible for a child to be raised by his/her birth parents or within the birth family.

Adoption is a legal process, which transfers parental responsibility from the child’s birth parents to their adoptive parents. The positives of adoption include, rescuing a child and helping the birth mother. The adoption process should find parents who are able to look after a child. When a family adopts a child they just provide the best possible life for the child. He may get to experience new people in this new family and build bonds that last throughout their whole life. Some adopted children come from an abusive background and should get to experience the natural environment of a loving family. Adoption will also provide benefits for the birth mother. In some cases, the birth mother is a single teen parent who would struggle to provide for herself and the child while attending school trying to earn an income at the same time. In other cases, the parents are physically or emotionally unable to raise the child. When these parents decide they can no longer provide parental responsibilities for their child, they seek help they need while still providing a good life for their baby. The negative side to adoption includes, the long challenging process and challenging children.

Adopting a child is typically a long process. Once you decide what you are doing you will begin an application process. You will complete a two-month home study process that checks your ability to raise a child. Once you are certified as a safe adoptive family, you are placed on a waiting list for a baby, which can take up to months or years. Another major con is adopting challenging children. Adopted children often fit very well into a new family that loves and provides for them. However, Some children, especially if adopted later in their life, can experience severe depression and other emotional problems. Some children feel they were to blame for their adoption and may have low self-esteem. I believe adoption is the best way to go about having a child. Adoption provides the opportunity for everyone to have a chance of having a child and can ultimately lead in the creation of a family. Adoption also has the chance to provide someone a family that they thought they would never have and experience some type of normalisation.
