An Issue Of Animal Cruelty And What We Can Do To Stop It

Cosmetic testing on animals is a type of animal testing used to test the safety and hypoallergenic properties of products for use by humans. Due to the harm done to the animal subjects, this testing is opposed by animal rights activists and others. Cosmetic animal testing is banned in the European Union, India, and Norway. In Texas there is laws to protect animals from cruelty. In the markets there already is many products that are made using thousands of ingredients that have a long history of safe use. Companies can ensure safety by choosing to create products using those ingredients. For cosmetics there are not many pros to testing on animals. The reasoning for doing so is to make sure the product is safe and doesn’t cause harmful reactions. There are other ways to test this however that do not involve animals. Animals arent given their rights that they are supposed to have in the first place. There are not enough laws preventing animal abuse. Animals being caged up is unfair to the animals themselves. The cruelness of caging an animal up for days, weeks, months, or even years at a time with no food, water or care is the cruelest thing any human being could possibly ever do. Cruelty and neglect are also two subjects that have to deal with animal abuse. The state with the smallest fine is Tennessee which has no fine for abusing or putting any kind of animal through cruelty. The two states that have the most time that you can get up to in jail are Alabama and Louisiana at, up to ten years in jail.

The laws that we have now aren’t enforced enough as they should be. There isn’t enough attention being given to this subject as there should be. There are laws about animal cruelty and abuse but aren’t used as much as they should be. There are animals being abused, tortured, or neglected every day that no one reports, notices, or does anything about. The rights that animals have now aren’t given to the animals like they should be or where created to be. Animal abuse isn’t a case that most people look as a highly serious problem. If that was how everyone thought of animals we would have none left on our planet. Animals are a big role in our lives today we use them for almost everything we do and thinking that some one would neglect, torture, or abuse an animal is just wrong.

Out of the 50 states there are only three that do not have animal abuse or cruelty laws. If they do not fix animal abuse or animal cruelty soon we will have no more animals in the future. The rights that we have now for animals are perfectly fine its just that the animals aren’t given the rights they deserve to be given or have. Animals aren’t given that much of their rights as they have to begin with.Harsher punishment is another thing to talk about. If there was harsher punishment for abusing an animal there wouldn’t be as many animals getting abused, beaten, or neglected. Animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect are bad and animals aren’t given the rights they deserve. Every day in the United States animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival.

Examples include starvation, dehydration, untreated parasite infestations, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and the failure to get medical care. Passive cruelty is sometimes due to the owner's ignorance, so many animal control officers will first try to educate neglectful owners on how to properly care for animals before giving them a citation or placing them under arrest. Active cruelty, on the other hand, is more well known and disturbing. Sometimes referred to as non-accidental injury, this type of abuse involves purposefully inflicting harm on an animal in order to feel more powerful or gain control.

Active cruelty against animals should be taken very seriously, since it can be a sign that a person has serious psychological issues and may commit more acts of violence – possibly against humans. It is hard to tell just what drives people to harm innocent animals. According to a 1997 study done by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Northeastern University, animal abusers are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse, says Pet-abuse.com. It is vital to report people who hurt animals. The Columbine school shooting is another example of animal abuse as a precursor to human violence. There are plenty of things everyday citizens can do. The simplest action is for people to take care of their own pets and learn the facts so they can educate others on proper animal care. Another easy way to help is by donating to or volunteering at a local animal shelter.

Finally, by writing letters you can remind your local lawmakers that animal abuse is a real problem that needs to be addressed. As a nation we need to make it our priority to come together and ensure the safety of our beloved pets. As Margaret Mead once said, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
