Analysis of "Harrison Bergeron" Story Novel

Harrison bergeron is a dystopian short story novel that takes place in the year 2081, where people have very little freedom and everybody's the same. But there is this one person that is stronger, smarter and very athletic that doesn't follow the rules his name was Harrison Bergeron. People like him are outlaws in this point in time where every thing they do is being secured by the government. This is Harrison Bergeron summary paper where this noverl is reviewed.

The first example of self freedom is when they made the 211th-213th amendments were created they handicapped they stronger, smarter, etc. So everybody could be the same and if people didn't use their handicapper they would to jail and be tortured until they were the same as everybody else.”Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else.” this is saying that you couldn't be better than someone at something because everybody is the same. If you were smarter they made you wear radio transmitters so you wouldn’t take advantage of your brain or if you were stronger they made you wear weight so you would have the same strength as everybody else. This relates to the theme because he they have no self freedom they always would have something and if they don’t there would be consequences had to face.

The second example of self freedom is when george is tired of wearing the handicapper around is neck but can’t take it off because 'Two years in prison and two thousand dollars fine for every ball I took out,' said George. 'I don't call that a bargain.' george is tired and his wife tells him so take is neck brace off. She doesn’t mind if he’s better than him for a while. But george refuses to because of the harsh consequences that would come with it. this relates to the theme because he has no control over what he can and cannot do because if he does a slight change he would get a huge punishment. That's why he wouldn't even take a lead ball out. They barely even have control of their own body and what they can and can’t do.

The third example of self freedom is when harrison attacks the theater because he is holding them hostage and if they try to escape the whole theater will explode. Also if anybody tries to come it it will also explode. The people had no control he did what the government did to him and everybody else.'I am the Emperor!' cried Harrison. 'Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once!' this is when Herrison had recently escaped and the prison and entered the theater and everybody is scared because they think he is going to kill them all.this relates to the theme because freedom isn’t given to them he is trying to make them watch him be great.

In “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, the theme of self freedom is expressed through how the government wants everybody to be the same and handicapes people with advantages so they won’t take advantage of things or people. Also nobody has self freedom because they are wearing weights or radio transmitters or if you were too beautiful you would have to wear masks to cover up your beauty
