Analysis Of My Personality Type, Interests, And Skills In Terms Of Being Capable Of Becoming A Teacher
I am currently studying English at the Open University of Hong Kong and living with my parents and my younger sister. I am interested in drawing and taking photographs during my free time. I am passionate about design and make clothes too. I also enjoy reading books and watching movies for leisure.
Along with my life, I think that my role as the elder sister in my family is important to me, as this role indicates that I have the responsibility to be a role model to my sister and I am the person who has to take care of my parents when I have grown up. In addition, this role makes me feel that I have the responsibility to take care of my teammates at work.
I have taken a personality test based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), my result shows that I am an introvertive, intuitive, feeling, and precepting (INFP) person, such person is also named as the Mediator.
Based on the result, my introvert personality indicates that I enjoy being alone and focus on my inner world, and I am a peaceful and quiet person. Also, I would make decisions after immerse consideration. Besides I am also an intuitive person, I always have a lot of abstract, imaginative ideas on my mind and I also have the ability to see future possibilities. Furthermore, I have the intention to think and make decisions with my feelings, when I am judging somebody, I tend to judge with my heart instead of my head and I would think in others' shoes. This personality also shows that I aim to have harmonious and positive interactions with people and I would try to treat everyone fairly. At last but not least, my perceiving personality reflects that I am curious and open-minded, I would listen to others' opinions when I make decisions.
In a nutshell, people whose MBTI personality type is INFP are idealistic and curious. They are able to seek possibilities easily. They are faithful to irreplaceable people in their lives. They also stand for own standards. In addition, a person with this personality type would take pleasure in having an adventurous, extraordinary life instead of an ordinary one. Besides, they tend to encourage people to transform their abstract ideas into reality like paintings or inventions. They also attempt to understand people and assist them to gain fulfillment.
In order to certify that I have the right career choice, it is important for me to identify the skills I have. Based on my past experience, I classified my skills into two categories, hard skills, and soft skills. About my hard skills, I have four hard skills. First, I have advanced computer skills since I took Information and Communication Technology as one of my elective subjects during senior form in secondary school. Besides, my experience being the vice-president of the Photography Club from my secondary school gives me a lot of chance to practice my photography skills. I also won two photography competitions which have proved that I am skillful in photography. Furthermore, I am responsible to plan and organize activities to let my club members and other schoolmates to join, which developed my planning skills. In addition, I have art lessons in the art gallery since I was fourteen-year-old and I took Visual Art as one of my elective subjects during my senior form in secondary school. I also participated in two art exhibitions which have proved that I am adequate in painting and illustrating.
Concerning my soft skills, I have four soft skills. First, I am good at communication with others and listening to them. I had been a part-time cinema staff. Since my profession requires a lot of communication between me and others like helping customers to buy movie tickets, having good communication and listening skills are important.
Besides, I am capable of leadership and teamwork. Being the vice-president of the Photography Club in my secondary school, I am responsible to take part one of the leaders whenever there are any school events that require students to participate as the official photographers. I would also ask my teammates actively if they have any problems. Considering that I was two extra-curriculum clubs’ vice-presidents while I have to prepare the public examination simultaneously. My management skills help me to manage my schedule wisely. I am able to balance my time studying and my time on managing club activities.
Lastly, creativity is one of my soft skills. As mentioned above, I took Visual Art as my electives. I participated in my secondary school’s annual fashion show and I got the overall champion award with my teammates. Being the designer of the team, I have to create the design of the outfit based on a topic. In the future, I hope to be a primary school teacher because I think that my personality and skills are able to help me to be a good teacher. A teacher should be caring as they have to care about their students’ academic results and mental health, I think that I am a caring person. As mentioned above, my personality reflects that I would tend to understand people’s feeling and their situation which a caring person would do. I also cared about my teammates when I am working.
Besides, a teacher has to be patience. My current part-time job as a guidance tutor in a primary school requires a lot of patience, which reflects that I am a patient person and I am willing to help others. In addition, responsibility is one of the most important characteristics of a teacher. Teachers are responsible make sure that students are under control and the atmosphere is well enough for learning. They are also chargeable to teach students patiently. Being the part-time guidance tutor has reflected that I am a responsible student as I have to maintain discipline in the classroom and make sure that students could learn their mistakes effectively.
Considering the skills that a teacher has to be capable of, a teacher has to be good at communication. As they have to teach students clearly and inform parents about their children’s performance at school, they also have to communicate with other teachers. They have a very close relationship with both students and their parents. As mentioned before, my former part-time job has enhanced and reflects that I am capable of communicating with others.
Besides, creativity is also an important skill of being a teacher, since making the lessons interesting could enhance the learning progress of students and give them a deep impression. As mentioned above, creativity is one of my soft skills and this matches the requirement. In addition, teachers have to be skillful in planning and organization. Teachers have to prepare learning materials and do revisions. I think my management skills are capable for me to be a good teacher.
Based on my personality, interest, and skills, I think I am capable of being a teacher. Although improvements could be made such as having high expectations, I still think that it would be delightful to be a teacher because I love children and I hope that they could have a bright future.
