Analysis of Nursing Professional Presence and Influence Course
I will analyse personal results of attenting tests and courses that have helped me understand what type of personality do I have in this "Professional presence and influence essay" Also I will discuss how professional presence works in nursing practice. The two models of health and healing that I chose for this discussion is era I and era II. Era I model of health occurred in 1860 while Era II emerged in 1950 s according to Koerner. The two models of health vary significantly. During era 1 there was hypothesis that health and illness were entirely physical in nature while a person’s consciousness was regarded as a result of chemical, anatomic and physiological aspects of the brain. In era II there was a mounting awareness of the person’s mind realization which included feelings, emotions and beliefs. The body mind model also refereed as era 11 show characteristics which affect the body. Era II is viewed as a local miracle within the body and in present moment of a single lifetime. I view both mind and physical body as balance that require healing to take place without one of it or the other, healing won’t be achieved fully. My belief is that human body consists of physical body and the mind. The two components are completely interrelating and cannot exists without the other.
I view human as a whole or complete individual. Era I identify a person as physical being and does not address the psychological needs. I belief that mind and consciousness affect one’s health. I also belief that mind has complete control of the body however the two must work hand in hand for coordination. I always try to have positive attitudes when caring for my patients even during stressful situations. I belief that having a positive attitude will help to cope with demanding situations and create good working relationship with other employees. I regard myself as professional and must be mindful of the attitudes, verbal or nonverbal communication I display to my patients and staff. I’m mindful of the patient’s safety and I try to create a conducive environment for healing to occur. At my place of work, I offer both physical psychological and spiritual care to my patients which I belief that patients need the three elements to heal. My actions involve providing nursing care and ensuring that patient safety is achieved as charge nurse. I always have a clear picture of duties assigned to my responsibilities as charge nurse.
Professional Presence in Nursing Practice
Mindfulness or distraction brings my awareness of the five senses into engagement and helps me to recognize what I’m experiencing at that moment. I work in mental health, engaging myself in mindfulness enhance my ability to pay close attention and help to notice what is happening on the unit. For instance, during safety environmental checks for every five minutes or fifteen minutes I’m able to see pay attention to all patients on the unit as charge nurse. I utilize mindfulness in engaging patients to their present moment by shifting their focuses or interrupting stressful thinking to promote sense of calmness. To my personal benefit, mindfulness has enhanced my nursing assessments by identifying changes in patients’ conditions through use of my five senses. My communication skills have been effectively improved through use of mindfulness and has assisted me to cope with stressful situations at work. Utilizing mindfulness techniques such as use of deep breathing, meditation and sensory stimulation. To my analysis patient’s behavior such as incidents of violence has slowed down due to promotion of sense of feelings and increased relaxation among patients.
Personality Preferences
Jung Personality Test Results
My personality type that I found out is extraverted sensing, feeling and judging. As per this personality, I tend to seek harmony, cooperation and sense of order. I enjoy routine and often keep a regular schedule at work. I’m attentive to both the feelings of others and the perception others have on me. As per this personality, I view myself as a good person due to my tendency of promoting the well-being of my patients and other staff. My interpersonal communication is through the common values shared with others at work. Although the greater number of ESFJ stays in touch with a lot of different people, I do not find this consistent with my characteristics. Another issue is that of having difficult breaking from social fabric of peers and companions which I do not find it difficult to me. I have a clear moral code that guides my behavior and my expectations from others. The most important issue I find is what is right and wrong. Sometimes I’m judgmental of others. I like everyone to follow the rule to be able to get along well. As ESFJ, I value teamwork, cooperation and mutual respect. Another issue that I don’t find aligning with my personality is the approach of using confrontation as a way of solving unexpected situation when no other options are available.
My personality test aligns with my ability to interact with others, share my feelings and able to communicate effectively by engaging other people. For instance, being an extrovert I’m always eager to be involved in helping and volunteering. What affiliates with my favorite activities are volunteering at work, being involved in religious organizations making family traditions, cooking when at home and participating in social sports. My career choice includes nursing, coping with stress at work and able to work with others as a team player. I always find a common ground in which I can relate to other people. The career types for ESFJ type of personality are nurse educators, nurse administrators, Social workers, and nursing care providers.
Potential Challenges or Barriers
The potential challenges that I found due to my personality challenges are dealing with other personalities in sharing my feelings freely. Being an extrovert I’m sociable, talkative and friendly however, I sometimes find it difficult to deal with other personalities especially with the introverts when it comes to discussing issues that require others participation. Being aware of my personalities, mindfulness helps me to work along with coworkers in ways of initiating a discussion so that I don’t solely give suggestions without giving others a chance to participate in a conversation. Another barrier that I find is the people’s perception that I’m attention seeker when dominating discussions due to my personality. Some other people think that I try to show off when it comes to leadership positions. I have naturally worked with coworkers who are shoddy at their work and with no motivation to improve their work performance. I find it challenging in working with people who do not carry out what they are assigned to perform effectively. When dealing with these non-performing employees they feel that I try to show off as charge nurse. Another issue or challenges I find as barriers are work conflicts between staff that tends to be personal in nature. In dealing with conflicts at work, I find it beneficial by effectively communicating to all staff about, professionalism, work expectations and their responsivities.
Mindfulness Practice
I enjoy watching movies with my family when I’m off duty. My current interest is to lose ten pounds and be able to achieve the normal body mass index. I will be able to achieve this goal by eating healthy food, exercising and avoiding sedentary lifestyles to promote good healthy. I belief that healthy lifestyle is vital in preventing chronic illness, boosting self-esteem, reducing risks of chronic disease and promoting the overall health. Some of the mindfulness that I plan to cultivate is use of body movement, message therapy using message gun which I have in the house and deep breathing exercises. Using the body movement, deep breathing exercise and message therapy will promote mindfulness and engage my attention to focus on the moment. What I intent to incorporate in my clinical care is the deep breathing exercises and body movements because they are easy to apply at any time and place. Other practices are distraction techniques, utilizing the five senses, being non-judgmental and using meditation in quiet room to regain calmness and focus.

Healing Environments
According to Sakallaris et al., Samuel Institutes defines optimal healing as a complete, change process of restoration and regaining in mind, body, and spirit resulting in positive change with self-realization of wholeness, regardless of the presence or absence of disease. The healing environment includes four elements for optimal healing to occur. The four elements include internal, interpersonal, behavioral and external environments. Sakallaris et al, outlines internal environment as consists of private thoughts, hopes, emotions expectations and beliefs. He argues that individuals are complex, and they include being a whole person, mind body and spirit. Optimal healing under this category involves intentional consciousness or awareness that brings understanding into one’s suffering and full acceptance of the illness. It’s important for care providers to communicate their healing intentions to patients in a caring action. Patients need to share their hopes and be able to show their motivations to change for the better. The internal environment includes practices that engage the body, mind and spirit to improve health and promote healing intentions. Healing intention is evident in the care setting through prayer, and assessing patient hopes and expectations for healing and incorporating those hopes into the care. Personal wholeness involves mind, body, and spirit and is experienced through relationship with self and others to bring about completeness and wellbeing.
Interpersonal environment involves healing relationship and organizations. Healing relationships are the connections between persons who hold an intention for healing to occur. Healing organizations are determined by a mission to encourage healing and health promotion. Health organizations provide suitable ways, processes, and resources to stimulate and support healing through intention, relationships, person-centered tactical development and collective decision-making. Healing organizations optimize the potential for wellbeing of their employees and the people they serve.
Behavioral environment supports the practice of healthy lifestyles and the application of integrative healthcare. Behavioral environment encompasses management of stress, application of healthy lifestyle such as exercising, eating good food and having satisfactory sleep. Optimal healing environment offers teaching, guidance, and support for healthy lifestyles to the needs of patients, family members, and workers.
External environment contains Healing spaces and ecological sustainability. This integrate evidence-based strategy and healing values to optimize and promote the quality of care, results, experiences of patients and staff. Healing spaces use physical strategy to develop the individual's innate healing potential. Ecological sustainability is by reducing their footmark and supporting the health of the planet. The chemical impact and energy for the operations is considered. Practices that are resource-intensive may be substituted with more ecologically friendly, less detrimental, and cruelty-free alternatives. All people deserve an optimal healing environment either at home, work, and anywhere that care is required. As care providers a therapeutic connection is required with healing intents and the expectation that personal wholeness and meaning result from our work and our care. Patients deserve all kinds of treatment either the Eastern or Western medicine in the setting of a healing space.
Healing Environments in Healthcare
Sakallaris et al, describes healing hospital environment as healthcare systems that motivate and provide characteristic of healing capacity of patients, families and their care providers. The two health care facilities that I identified to provide healing hospital environments are John Hopkins and Montefiore Hospitals. John Hopkins provides patients, their families a sense of controlling distressing conditions with a purpose of ensuring calmness. The hospital designs involve artistic and aesthetics elements with calming effects such as elegant interiors which has natural looks. The rooms have sun filled rooms, peaceful public spaces and sound absorbing materials to reduce noise. The hospital tiles, ceilings and nurse call systems are of sound observing materials. The physical environment also includes serenity landscape, art collection, window shades to private rooms and building sculptures displayed in the hospital. As for Monteferiore, the hospital has a design that provides a soothing effect to patient, natural lighting, pleasant sounds and visual stimulating colors. The physical environment is designed in a way to reduce noise, prevent glare lights and poor-quality air to prevent stressful situations. The hospital encourages patients to personalize rooms to provide comforting effects and reduce distress. In general, the hospital building is designed to offer healing nature through art. The hospital also offers age related entertainments, and soothing music.
Application of Self-Awareness
I will use the gained knowledge of analyzing the optimal heath environment in building my basis in mental health nursing. I will use the education and knowledge gained in developing my skills in promoting effective communication among patients and other medical providers. I will use this knowledge to enhance my experience on non-judgmental and being alert to what is happening in individual consciousness or environment. I have gained more understanding of optimal healing environment and how to utilize mindfulness practices to promote improved nursing care. I will use the self-awareness to incorporate holistic nursing assessment, use of mindfulness practice, enhanced skillful communication to promote better-quality patient outcomes. I also intend to use integrative care by assimilating the patient’s hope expectations, beliefs cultural norms and life goals through multi-disciplinary care providers. In my mental health nursing practice, I will use the insights that I have learned from optimal healing environment especially in behavioral element. I will use the skills to manage patients stress, incorporate healthy lifestyles and offer education while attending to the needs of the patients. I found use of external environmental resources useful in promoting healing through use of artworks, nature and other interventions to promote calm behavior.
Conclusion
Doing this professional presence course has offered me the insight of what I need to be a competence nurse. After taking the personality test, I was able to have personal reflection of who I’m and worked on my strengths and weaknesses. I have become more aware of myself and how to overcome my potential barriers or challenges to be more effective with patient care. After studying about optimal healing environment, I will be able to utilize learned knowledge to provide patients with healing environment from
