Analysis of the Manifest Destiny as a Part of American Expansion Program

The America was a peaceful place lived in by tribes of native Americans. The natives lived off of the land and treating the land as if it was God. They wouldn’t disturb the natural order of things and never took more resources than they needed to survive. The native Americans were in balance with mother nature and not a disturbance. He immediately said they are ignorant because they are amazed by a sword, he hands them, but he also mentions about their generous and caring hospitality. Once the Europeans seen the natives had no bad intentions to them, they demanded for the natives to show them where the gold was. Those who defied his commands were murdered and enslaved. He then used those captives to collect their precious ores to send back to the king and queen.

Manifest Destiny was a God sent belief in needing to expand across the entire US. To the people of color this meant more work on larger plantations which also meant the Europeans would need more slaves. The Indian removal was a largely caused by manifest destiny. John G. Burnett was a private soldier and discusses the horrors he witnesses what they were doing to those who defied the manifest destiny. He says, “I was sent as interpreter into the Smoky Mountain Country in May, 1838, and witnessed the execution of the most brutal order in the History of American Warfare”. These evil acts were done to those who defied the Europeans and their manifest destiny. This religious idea has spread across into Mexican territory and the Mexican would not give up their land for the Europeans cause without a fight. The north star editorial discusses the war with Mexico and says, “If any oppose the President's demands, it is not because they hate the war, but for want of information as to the aims and objects of the war”. The Mexican didn’t believe in the manifest destiny so they defied the Europeans request to manifest destiny and this made the president to declare war amongst the Mexicans.

A phrase coined in 1845, Manifest Destiny expressed the philosophy that led the United States territorial expansion in the 19th century. Manifest Destiny held that the United States was destined to expand its dominion and spread democracy and capitalism throughout the North American continent, according to its advocates, by god. In 1845, the United States of America annexed Texas, which in the Texas Revolution of 1836 gained independence from the Republic of Mexico.

I believe it is trying to ask us what were the motives for creating the Manifest Destiny, was it for an underlining issue. Manifest Destiny was the idea that white citizens of America continent were divinely destined to populate the entire continent. The ideology of Manifest Destiny has inspired various measures to remove or destroy indigenous peoples.
