Analysis Of Toyota’S Production Management
Mission
Toyota mission is to become a very successful vehicle manufacturing company with a mission to produce vehicles which offers various safety features across the range to protect the lives of an individual and families around the world. The company also includes missions such as creating a vehicle which safety is being prioritized and the driving experience that will bring smiles to its customers worldwide. By implementing the “Genchi-Genbutsu” philosophy, which is deciding what is the best thing you can source and build it to achieve the goals as fast as possible without compromising anything in return. Furthermore, Toyota is committed to the customers safety and satisfaction, peace of mind and even comfort of the customers so that they won’t lose their trust and confidence in Toyota. They also provide very nice returns and good quality services to its buyers. And the best news is that this mission applies to the whole world.
Vision
Toyota vision is to lead the way to the future of mobility in terms of technology and enriching lives around the world through the concept of Monozukiri, which in English it translates to “craftsmanship” or “making things by hand”. By doing this Toyota will create more jobs for the people and contribute what the earn to the society. Toyota also constantly raises their standards for dependability, reliability and most importantly customer satisfaction, which is what Toyota is famous for and their reliability throughout the years. Furthermore, with its constant innovation continues, the goal is to stay ahead in the market from other manufacturers.
Planning
Before making any certain move on make a vehicle, the managers will create a detailed plan before executing any tasks. The process begins with Toyota in their research and development facility with countless hours of assessing and reassessing the requirements for the major key factor such as the style of the vehicle, creature comforts, engine performance and most importantly, economy. Not only that every Toyota vehicle must meet the needs and preferences such as cost-effective manufacturing, innovative features and it must be environmentally friendly. After meeting every need, the designers are called upon to translate the needs and preferences into a car that is worth for the people all around the world. Back by the latest computer-aided design and engineering technology, various designs are created. The usage of all the computer-aided technology is not only for the sake of styling but is also for structure strength of the vehicle. All the ideas are later to be presented to the quality confirmation meeting which involves members from every department of Toyota respectively. With that said the most viable design is given the green light to proceed further research and development.
Organizing
After having everything planned out, the managers will start to assign task to each individual department to carry out their jobs according to plan. From the concept, the designers will construct a full-size model with accurate precision. This is because the mock up is used to determine its aesthetic values and design feasibility. The quality confirmation meeting will go through the model to eliminate the tiniest flaw in presence. After everything is completed, Toyota will build a prototype which they will test it to the extremes of endurance such as testing it in the coldest and hottest weathers. But for the components which fail the meet the requirements for their durability of their standards, they will be redesigned and retested until the entire components passes the standards with flying colours. Only then Toyota approves a model ready for mass production to the people.
Leading
In this step, the managers will send a leader to the department to spend some time with all the employees directly and work with them. This is because when a leader is able give some motivating speeches to encourage the employees while working with them, they will feel much more confident in his or her workplace. This further result in a higher level of productivity. Along with that the Toyota vehicle are sourced through an intensive and progressive vendor by a host of parts manufacturers. They complement Toyota own casting part which involves cutting-edge technology which it can produce an entire die cast iron or aluminium engine blocks, cylinder heads, camshafts, crankshafts and bearing caps. These are assembled at the engine and transmission plant. Not only this it also involves a process called blanking and shearing which means huge coil of sheet steels are cut into the required shapes to form the basic body panels of the vehicle. The body panels are later mixed with the chassis in the body assembly section. Robotic arms are used to form tough precision wielding body shells from the stamped body panels. Engineers then take the shell closer to completion. Just to be sure the car can withstand tough and harsh weather conditions, it is first immersed in a cathodic electro deposition bath. Next is to apply an undercoat and second coat to keep body rust free for at least 6 years. Finally, an electrostatic spray system is given to make it look sleek.
Controlling
The final part is where the quality control department is responsible. In the final process, the employees from Trim and Final Assembly will install the interior trims all functional components for example, wiring harness and the fuel tank. After that the engine is mounted in place followed by the exhaust system and tyres. After that, the dashboard, seats and all internal components, windshield, windows and front and rear bumpers and the finishing touches of the car. Dynamic tests are carried out with a couple of inspection program to confirm that the vehicle is completely based on their standards such as emission levels. Only then the vehicle is worthy to be on the road and serve its owner.
