Marxism is very broader aspect but researcher will focus only on economic inequality and dialectical relation in this research proposal to make it easy for understanding by giving certain examples from the novel to show Napoleon’s character as master-mind capitalist and Boxer as working class’s member naivety.
Animal Farm is an allegorical novel by George Orwell, it was published in England on 17 August 1945. It tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy. Ultimately, however the rebellion is betrayed and the farm ends up in a state as bad as it was before under the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon.
According to Orwell the fable reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Stalinist era means that governing and related policies implemented from 1927 to 1953 by Joseph Stalin (1878–1953). Stalinist policies and ideas that were developed in the Soviet Union included rapid industrialization. The events of the Russian Revolution that brought the Soviet Union about had a deep impact on the entire world. It generated a new way of thinking about economy, society and the government. The Bolsheviks set out to cure Russia of all its injustices that arouse from social class differences. Orwell was a democratic socialist critic of Joseph Stalin as he gave name of Napoleon in novel to indirect criticized him and directed to Stalinism that is an attitude that was critically shaped by his experiences during the Spanish Civil War. He believed that The Soviet Union had become a brutal dictatorship built upon a cult of personality and enforced by a reign of terror. He wrote this novel to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole.
Researcher is going to apply Marxist notion to elaborate how powerful language manipulate and corrupt society. Simple and ignorant people are like puppet in hands of Capitalist as during Soviet era.
After reading this novel Researcher has found significance to describe how power has corrupted our society specially Bourgeoisie, which is Napoleon in novel ‘Animal Farm’, who exploit working class such as Boxer who worked hard and loyal to farm, his motto’ I will work hard’ and sheep are content with repeating a motto instead of engaging in any real thought. Their repetition of ‘four legs good, two legs better’ continued throughout novel. With help of such kind of power language, researcher will elaborate how language manipulates and utopia becomes a dystopia. This research will help to fill gaps of how society gets corrupt when language is use as weapon to operate minds and take advantage from circumstances. Researcher is hoping to cover some areas on which research has not done already, it will discuss class segregation and destruction made by Napoleon in novel and how does Orwell depict the naivety of the working class.
