An Influence Of The Development Of Technologies On Social, Physical & Mental Development Of People

The world keeps on progressing, so does the technology we utilize. Innovation has a significant influence in our life nowadays. Everyone we interact with is somehow somewhere using tech for basic needs and daily work of life. People now just cant live without it. As a result, we have become physically, mentally and socially weak. Most of us are unable to do simple mathematical operations, and we use our smartphone’s calculators.

Smart-phones alone have replaced our cameras, our calenders, alarm clocks and our family time. A belief that the phone has rang or vibrated are called phantom vibrations. Teenagers who are addicted to their smart-phones are more susceptible to experiencing a false belief that their phones have received a notification, even when they have not. As the tech world advances, we lose occupations on daily basis.

A new report predicts that by 2030, as many as 800 million jobs could be lost worldwide to automation. In the US alone, somewhere about 39 to 73 million occupations remain to be computerized making up around 33% of the total jobs. Introducing technology also means new jobs will be created, more opportunities will form but for that workers will have to switch professions, leave what they are comfortable working and switch to a complete new environment filled with robots, machines and automation. This may cause political and economical instability as those workers shifting and getting trained again may not all be young individuals. They maybe old or middle aged workers who don’t want to switch. All these factor wont lead to anything else other than income inequality.

I think that technology has led us to a situation where we are simply unable to differentiate between right and wrong. Nobody remembers a phone number, no one remember birthdays because we have everything online. Some of you may argue that without technology we are just a race who is in the bottom of the food chain and you might be right upto a certain level. I am not completely disagreeing the use of laptops, phone etc., all I am trying to say is that excessive use of technology is not good for our well-being.

Shalini Misra, an assistant professor at Virginia Tech University says “Too much dependence on digital tools can hinder the development of social and interpersonal skills. Kids are less accustomed to focusing their attention for long periods of time these days and digital tools can reduce their capacity to concentrate on effortful and perhaps less desirable tasks.” She later in her interview also expresses her concerns about how we are uncomfortable with face to face meetings. We can text message, email or snap-chat pretty much anyone we want but when it comes to face to face talk we really lack in that. A child who excessively uses electronics may become isolated and fail to develop normal communication skills such as conversational skills, listening, and making eye contact.

A study also shows that when students use excessive internet to browse or play games may have a higher risk of brain damage and anxiety. As in teenage our brain inst fully developed but is in the most critical part of its development. Technology when used correctly can prove very successful as we tons and tons of examples, we have the Ayan Qureshi the youngest Microsoft certified professional at only the age of 5, we have Arfa Karim, she was a processional at on the age of 9, but at the same time dependence on technology hinders development of intelligence and we may not be able to explore all our options.
