China Should Set A Legal Drinking Age At 18
In China, teenagers drink alcohol is a very common thing. I was very ashamed. When a 13-year-old sister of my friend died because drinking too much at a party, finally, I realized that underage youth drinking should not be a very ordinary thing. After I do the research about alcohol laws in China, I felt angry and shocked. China doesn't have a drinking age. There are a few laws on the books, but for all practical purposes, there is no concept of getting "carded" for potentially being too young to buy booze. Sure, a six-year-old may get turned down trying to buy that 1 bottle of whiskey, but a six-year-old would also get turned down buying all sorts of things, even if they didn't have a legal age restriction (knife, nail guns). China should set a legal drinking age at 18, which is an important means of protecting our teenagers.
18 as legal drinking age can protect young people from potentially negative consequences, such as alcohol-related car accident, physical and sexual assault and other serious injuries in the life. Frankly speaking, drinking can trigger young people to make poor decisions, which can then result in risky behaviour after drinking, like sexual activity or violence. For example, in 2008 alone, more than 190, 000 people under age 18 visited an emergency room for alcohol-related behaviour. Sometimes people can hold it because of lucky enough, but sometimes people will pay their happiness, future and even life. a lot of researchers in PMC made a plan of exploring the association between alcohol, cigarette and marijuana use during adolescence and subsequent abuse of prescription opioids during young adulthood. Among the pair of data, compared with young people without prior substance use, young men with prior alcohol use were significantly more likely to have subsequent abuse of prescription opioids. To be more specific, for men without alcohol use would more likely follow the instruction of doctors’ prescription. Therefore, people who abuse alcohol are more likely to use illicit drugs.
18 as legal drinking age is keeping them in a good health and shape. Everyone should be aware of drinking may increase the risks of various illnesses and mortalities. In France approximately 20% of admissions to mental health facilities are related to alcohol-related cognitive impairment, most notably alcohol-related dementia. It can trigger a lot of potential disease including mouth, lunges, breast and other cancer. Drinking is likened to a time bomb and you never know when it will explode. Thus, the latest time young people are able to drink, the latest period the bad thing will happen.
After I finished this speech, I hope that more people can pay attention to and promote the legal drinking age of China set to 18 years old, for the health of our children, for the future of our children, for the happiness of our children.
