Comparative Analysis: 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and 'Stargirl'

Why do people focus on each others differences? This is the “A Thousand Splendid Suns” theme and the same is in the book “Stargirl”. The first book, a Thousand Splendid Suns, is about two women who were discriminated for their gender. They were abused but try to survive and fight for their rights. The second book, Stargirl, is about a girl who named herself Stargirl. But in the past, she named herself a lot on other names. The students at her school, Mica High School in Arizona, judge her and dislike her for being different. They tell her why she couldn't be normal. This essay tells why the two books have the same themes about differences.

A Thousand Splendid Suns shows Laila and Mariam who was disliked and denied of rights for being a female. In the book, Rasheed constantly abused Mariam and Laila. In afghanistan, women didn't have as much rights as men. Women didn't have good jobs, healthcare, or education. In the book, the Taliban strictly limited jobs, healthcare, and education for women. Rasheed didn't mind the Taliban's reign on afghanistan. Mariam was forced to eat stones and beaten by a belt once before. Mariam and Laila was abused and Women didn't have much rights like men. The theme in this book is that women should have as much equal rights as men.

In Stargirl, a girl named Stargirl was shunned for being different in the way she acted. At her school, Mica High School, people started ignoring her. Leo helped her and hung out with her. The theme in this book is to not judge a book by its cover. She might seem different on the outside but on the inside, she is nice, optimistic, and friendly. She cares a lot about everything. From a small bug, to a person. Stargirl was judged as different from other people but she is funny and playful.

Laila and Mariam were judged because of their gender. While stargirl was judged for her difference on how she acted. Mariam and Laila was discriminated against by most men except Tariq. When Mariam killed Rasheed even when he tried to kill Laila and Mariam, she was still convicted and executed. Stargirl was a mystery when she first came to her school, Mica high school. People ask alot of questions about her. Soon, her popularity decrease when people thought she was different. Mariam and Laila and endured abuse and Stargirl was disliked for being different.

The theme for both text is based on judging and differences. Both themes are based on people not liking the other person regarding their gender or how they act. The novels teaches a valuable lesson about not judging people about their difference from someone. They are both based on a character that goes through judgement by Society because of what they look like or how they are. The theme relates to people who could be treated differently from someone else. In conclusion, the theme for both books is from people treated differently.
