Comparative Analysis Of Codes Of Ethics Apple Inc. And Samsung companies

If we are going to talk about ethics, we need to know what that is. Ethics is related to the study of moral and the human actions. An ethical sentence is a moral statement that elaborates affirmations and define what is good or bad, what is mandatory or allowed, etc. in relation to an action or decision. Now that we know what ethics is, I am going to compare and contrast the ethics of two of the biggest companies: Apple Inc. and Samsung.

First, let’s start with the giant of California. Apple demands all its suppliers: offer comfortable and safe working conditions, like giving the employees the proper materials to work, proper clothes to be safe and places to stay, rest, and concentrate when you are not working. Treat all workers with dignity and respect, it doesn’t matter if you are talking to the president of the company or the janitor, you must treat them with the same respect. Carry out responsible manufacturing processes with the environment, most of their products must be recyclable and do not have to affect the environment. Also, the providers are prohibited from accepting or offering bribes for their good and advantage. If they are asked, they have to give information about their financial situation, structure, and the activities made by the company. The way they manage their advertisements and sales must be fair to the competition.

The code of conduct, this code is based on strict international standards and the way to apply them is what makes the difference for the people who manufacture the products in plants all over the world. This code includes the areas of human and workers’ rights, security and hygiene, environmental impact and ethics and commitment in work training. Apple prohibits practices that compromise the workers and human rights, even when the local laws and customs allow that practice. Apple was the first technological enterprise to be admitted in the FLA (Fair Labor Association). Some of the treats this association has is: the end of exploitation of immigrant workers, prohibition of discriminatory policies and prevention of the exploitation of minors.

Now, let’s talk about the South Korean enterprise. Samsung says that if you want to have a healthy and safe place to work, you have to respect their rules: it is prohibited to discriminate and to have underage employees and the hours that you work must be appropriate, not more than nine hours per day. The managers can’t abuse their power or have abusive over employees and they can’t give to employees duties that are outside their work hours. Samsung also, is willing to have a fair and free competition, they are not allowed to talk and discuss things that happen inside the company with competitors, they can’t accept gifts and most important, is prohibited to try to get information illegally about another enterprise. About their relation with the environment, they have to comply rules related with the ecosystem, create cleaner products, reduce hazardous products and if they use transportation, they have to use it efficiently.
