Similar to New Orleans' Mardi Gras celebration, Haiti's Carnival is fashioned with parades, costumes, music and dancing in the streets to herald holy season. Fet Gede, November 2 is known as a national holiday despite their religious beliefs all Haitians celebrate “All Soul Day”or “Day of the Dead” where they celebrate the passing of a loved one by placing food on the grave or placing a plate of food on the table where they sat once. In the United States, some throw parties for their deceased loved one by celebrating their birthdays. It's not a holiday but to some families they use the deceased birthday or date of death to party. On Christmas in Haiti only the rich can afford a christmas tree for their homes to look beautiful decorated with lights but in america even the poor have a christmas tree for their children. On New Year's Day haitian believe in making pumpkin soup as it symbolizes “good luck” and the american culture believe that on New Year's Day to have a man walk in the house first as it symbolizes “good luck”.

Language

The language of most Haitians speak Creole or French. America was founded on the English language in 1795. Before WWI, United States children were taught in German. ReligionHaiti is a primarily Christian country, with the majority following Roman Catholicism followed by Protestantism. Voodoo is also broadly practiced. The priest or priestess is the messenger, who receives information from Loa (pantheon) during dreams, then share to those who follows its warnings, guidance and prophecies. Haitians and the United States grieving process are similar in many ways. From the viewing of the body to the gathering at the house for eating, drinking and reminiscing of the deceased. Even the attire is similar by wearing all black or any dark color. In the United States family members may wear the deceased favorite color like pink, purple, white or red. Unlike in Haiti, when one wear red to a funeral it symbolizes that you played a part in the deceased death. Therefore, wearing red attire is an act of disrespect to the family.

Healthcare System and Attitude

Healthcare attitudes vary from Haiti country to America country. Haiti has always been known to have the largest population of people living in poverty with the highest mortality rate of any country in America. One of the most devastating moments in Haiti occurred on January 12, 2010 when a magnitude 7. 0 earthquake hit and changed so many people lives. This devastating moment affected over 630, 000 people and killed over 7, 500. So many people were injured, hospitals, health centers, and educational institutions were destroyed or damaged leading to fewer resources. During this time a Cholera epidemic occurred. Cholera is a acute dehydrating bacteria infection spread through water and food contaminated by human feces. After the earthquake many families were living in encampments, mentally stressed and physically hurt and shocked. Having limited to none clean water while practicing poor hygiene and poor sanitation made it difficult to prevent the spread of Cholera following the disaster. Some people died and many were sickened from the bacterial infection. The medical community there had no experience with the disease and needed rapid training as the epidemic spread throughout the country of Haiti. In the United States Cholera is rare, nearly all of the cholera cases reported in the United States are acquired during international travel. Although the treatment only consist of fluids and antibiotics that can be easily access in the U. S, in Haiti that was not the case. Due to poverty and limited resources before and after the earthquake, contribute to the thousands of deaths that took place. This is where Haiti healthcare attitudes towards education and training plays a major role in preventive measures to prepare for such an event.

The problem with Haiti healthcare is that there is no plan or structure that has been implemented. Before the earthquake, half of all Haitians lacked any access to modern medical care. Haiti is located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean with a population of more than ten million people. Seventy percent of all nurses work in Port au Prince, where only a third of the people in the country live. Outside the capital of Haiti in most small hospitals they only have 1 or 2 qualified nurses. “Healthcare in Haiti number around 28 health workers per 1000 inhabitants which include 1 physician and 1. 8 nurses per 10, 000. ” There are insufficient medical staff, treatment and equipment. After the natural disaster nurses who volunteered from the states experience unique challenges and awareness of care in Haiti. The hospital is desperately understaffed and the small haitian staff is overwhelm by the lack of resources and rusty working conditions. About half of the Haitians leave their country after medical school due to poor working conditions and limited employment opportunities. ‘Haiti’s 3 medical schools and 5 leading nursing school graduate about 200 nurses and 300 physicians per year. Haiti needs community health workers and nurses who can train and supervise for public health programs. Nurses has much to contribute to the recovery of haiti and patient care. After the massive earthquake many suffered shock, anxiety, and depression which placed a strained on mental health services.

The culture of the patient influence many aspects of mental health, mental illness and patterns of health care utilization. In Haiti depression is not considered a Mental illness but a state of general debilitation due to medical condition such as malnutrition and anemia. The Haitians culture may think of vodou curse or excessive worrying being the cause of depression so it’s rarely treated by health care medical professionals. Seeking help can be difficult for some Haitians, mental health issues are considered taboo, shameful and hidden from outsiders. Even though the condition and resources are better in U. S compared to Haiti, America attitude toward mental health could improve to reduce misconceptions and stigmas about mental illness. Almost 56% of America adults with mental illness do not receive treatment. Which is one of the reasons why mental health should be included as a critical part of overall wellness. There is a serious mental health workforce shortage in Haiti and America. Mental healthcare professionals include psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and psychiatric nurses. The federal government in the U. S sets standards for the state mental health system to meet, but are free to expand beyond what exists at the federal level.

The ultimate solution requires logistical support from the haitian government and financial support from donor governments to train and retrain Haitians doctors and nurses. International commitment and strengthening nursing education and practice are crucial to Haiti’s recovery and health system development. A functional national healthcare system will provide employment for a significant number of Haitians. The lack of knowledgeable healthcare workers will adversely affect population health and further cease the economy.

Country Treatment

There is a proportion of difference in the traditions of a Haitian and American. According to how they live their everyday life, but one precise tittle would be treatments in Haiti, and how is itdissimilar in America. Also, how they are differently based on their culture, the type of treatmentthat is advanced, and finally, the technology advancement. Those subjects determine why thetreatment is better in one place than another. Our Opening topic will be based on why thetreatments in Haiti is not as appreciate from the people Haiti than America. In Haiti, we arestrong beliefs of remedies, and Haiti has cultural traditions of trying to heal a Disease that isneeded to be seen from an educated hospital. Therefore, by way of in Haiti culture, we havenumerous remedies and that one remedy is believing to heal numerous effects. Comparable anexample of asosi which is a belief that having many diseases Like anemia, diabetes Hypertensionand digestive problem and “asosi” Can support with all that just by drinking it. where an American would go to the hospital for that unhealthy subject that is currently happening in thebody of a Haitian would not. folk remedies are most of the time the only treatment line a Haitianwould have. Due to having-a numerous shortage of nursing in Haiti with slight to depended on.

As specified most Haitian live in rural areas, where about most American live in urban area. Due to Haiti being a third world country not many can afford health care treatments throughout they everyday life, but in Haiti, few are able to afford treatment because they are unable to even afford 3 meals Per day. Also, most Haitians believe in voodoo when one other have an illness that is chronic they believe that one has put a cursed on you for an example as growing up in Haiti my little brother had sickle cell which was not defined because of less technology so they defined him as being cursed because of the chronic pain he went through. A lot of our remedies were passed from generation to generation, not by data, and in America, many medications are scientifically proven and there are multiple of different medication for each unhealthy issue in the life. Then, in Haiti, one remedies medicine is known to cure a many unhealthy Cause.

Also one of the big differences between Haiti and America in treatment is that America is more advanced in technology than Haiti. One of the biggest issues with that is that Haiti not supported as it should be when it comes to financial status. Haiti is not-able to open doors to consume more dependability in the medical field because of resources to advance the technology including being able to make new research on what is needed throughout the island. For the reason that Haiti is not dependent on others. But as for united stated they are well known for having enough finance for everything in need that’s why they are primarily the foremost to be able to bargain a cure to most disease because they are advanced in technology.
