Comparison of Differences Between Chinese and American Culture

Because of the differences in history, geography, race and other factors, each country’s culture is different. Additionally, cultural differences can be analyzed from the historical background, cultural origins, characteristics and so on. But we all live on the same land and culture needs to be improved through communication and integratio , so every culture has something in common. As part of world culture, Chinese culture and American culture both have a very important and prominent position. Therefore, the differences and similarities between Chinese and American culture are worth discussing. There are plenty differences between Chinese and American culture that are analysed in the essay. The comparison also shows similarities, not only contrasts of these two cultures. 

First of all ,the biggest difference between Chinese culture and American culture is the length of history. There is a well-known book in China, The Five Thousand Years Up and Down in China. In fact, the Xia Dynasty, the first Inheritance Dynasty in China, has been more than four thousand years since then. Since then, a more systematic Chinese culture has begun to take shape. After colonization, people's resistance, war of independence and the declaration of independence, the United States was founded in 1776. At that time,Real American culture began to take shape. Thus it can be seen, compared to China, American culture has a shorter history.

Additionally, there are also differences in cultural origins. In a book called The Formation of Chinese Civilization, there is a saying: 'Chinese Civilization is an independent native civilization.' In ancient times, on the vast land of China, the Chinese people had less contact with the outside world and produced the culture with the most Chinese characteristics. So this culture, mainly composed of Chinese people, is inclusive and homogeneous. About American culture, Yu Zhisen, from the Department of History, East China Normal University, believes that American culture can be called an immigrant culture in terms of creating the main body of immigration and its characteristics. In the colonial era, people from all over the world migrated to North America, a newly discovered continent, on their own initiative or under compulsion. At the same time, it brings different cultures from different places. So it's not hard to understand that American culture is called immigrant culture. In short, from the perspective of cultural origin, there are great differences between Chinese culture and American culture.

Finally, the two cultures share one common feature: richness. China has a history of more than five thousand years, has fifty-six nationalities and has experienced the replacement of more than twenty dynasties. Therefore, Chinese culture is rich and divers. Similarly, American culture, supported by colonial historical background, contains the cultural elements of the world, especially in Europe, Africa and South America. It is the result of the collision, integration and development of different cultures, demonstrating its unique richness. So maybe Chinese culture and American culture differ greatly in content, but they have one common feature: richness.

In conclusion, Chinese culture and American culture have different and common characteristics. Each has its own charm, and is the epitome of the country’s comprehensive national strength.Emerson once said that as language is to critics, telescopes are to astronomers, culture is everything that gives strength to the spirit. Culture is not only the worlds on paper,but also the traces of histor, the crystallization of human wisdom and the symbol of a better future. In addition, national culture is the embodiment of the country’s economic, political and military strengths. When the country is strong, the culture will be colorful. Similarly, under the influence of rich and positive culture, people will be happier and the country will be stronger. Therefore, no matter whether the history of a national culture is long or short, whether it is homogeneous or the blending of various cultures, it all affect the future of the country. Attaching importance to national culture is one of the necessary factors for the development of the country.
