Practicing Compassion: Its Role in Everyday Life - Personal Reflection

To be compassionate is more than to just feel sympathy or show concern. To be compassionate is to truly feel deeply about another person feelings and opinions as they experience the ups and downs that come along with us through life. To be compassionate is to not just telling someone that you care about them, but it also means to show them that you care by being present to them when they need someone to comfort them when they are down, before they solicit for it. This is compassion essay in which this topic will be considered.

Compassion is a trait that only comes if you are willing to connect all the puzzles and challenges that come along the way, this creates a beautiful experience which allows us to be humane when relate to others problems, then we can comfortably provide support for them in any possible way we are able to. For me, compassion and empathy are head to head. I challenge myself to be compassionate each and every day whenever I possibly can, whether it includes being good student, or it being shown through my daily interactions with my peers. Compassion starts with the understanding that everyone you meet is fighting their own battle of which you know nothing about, this shows me that we should not judge a book by it’s cover, in other words don’t prejudge someone before you get to really know them. With that vision in mind makes it easier to treat others with love, compassion, empathy, and to have an easier understanding about their feelings. Don’t think that you are greater or lesser than others we are all humans facing great challenges, and when you realize that, compassion becomes a piece of cake.

I believe that compassion will change our world one person at one compassionate act at a time. Gandhi once advised that” we must be the change we wish to see in the world”, and I believe that if we wish to see a compassionate evolution, we need to start by being compassionate to others in every side of our lives. Violence and hatred could be solved with just the smallest bit of compassion, or even a little understanding that we are all humans and that everyone, even if they don’t show it we are all going through our own hardships. Even if it is as little as thinking about what the person who cut you off on the highway might be going through before you go off at them and start getting angry with them, and to simply just examine people’s reasons for having a certain opinion or acting out in a certain way, before we start making our own opinion on their personal life and feelings, and and start disagreeing with them.

While these may seem like simple situations, but I believe that compassion can truly have a big impact when applied to any kind of scenario like these. So often major tragedies result when someone reaches “their their last straw”, such situations could be changed if us individuals were to shown a little compassion and understanding along the way.
