Current Environmental Problems: Animal Exctinction And Carbon Dioxide Emissions
It is without a doubt that climate change and other environmental problems are currently some of the most talked about issues. Over the course of the last several years humanity has witnessed plenty of protests all over the world dedicated to fighting climate change. It is safe to say that many people have educated themselves about the environment and understand the consequences of not preserving the environment. But the question is, has the situation reached the point of no return? Or is it still possible for humanity to reverse the damage we have caused?
First of all, scientists believe that one of the most crucial environmental problems right now are carbon dioxide emissions. Currently the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide is at its highest level of the past 800,00 years. It has already affected the earth in a negative way and is one of the leading causes for climate change. Most scientists agree that it’s impossible to reverse the catastrophic effects. Even if we stopped emitting greenhouse gases today, global warming would continue for several more decades, if not centuries. However, things might become much worse over the course of this century. If we want to prevent the situation from worsening, society is going to have to find a way to adapt.
Secondly, animal extinction is another important environmental issue that has irreversibly harmed the earth. The world is currently experiencing the worst species extinctions since the loss of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Habitat loss, which is driven primarily by human expansion is the biggest threat facing most animal species, followed by hunting and fishing. The reality is that we cannot undo this and get extinct species back. However, there are ways to ensure that we don’t lose more wildlife that is at risk of extinction. Conservation organizations all over the world are trying to ensure the survival of endangered species and to create long lasting solutions that will benefit wildlife as well as humans that live alongside it.
All in all, I believe that it's very clear that environmental problems such as animal exctinction and carbon dioxide emissions have done irreversible harm for earth. All of these issues have been ignored by people in power as well as the majority of society for decades so it comes as no surprise that humanity has to face the consequences of their careless actions. It is obvious that it’s something that will take a lot of hard work and effort, as well as time, and that no matter how hard we try, we still won’t be able to completely reverse our actions. However, it is important to not give up and to realise that we, as a society, have an obligation to stop ignoring these issues and actually attempt to lessen the horribleness of the situations we’re currently facing to ensure the safety of the planet that we inhabit.
