Difference Between Men And Women In Terms Of Longevity

As I have understood from the reading Ogden (2017) and the video presented by Jonson (2013), there many differences between men and women that contributes to their health status and longevity. According to these resources, the two opposite gender has different impacts of different factors that affect their health and life span. Among those are biological, health behavior, risk taking behavior, and, help seeking and care where I am going to describe bellow. Men and women have different genic formations that influence their health such as the estrogen hormone in women has an important role on protecting heart diseases by controlling the lipids in their body Ogden (2017). Furthermore, Jonson (2013) also mentioned that this estrogen has also an impact on recovering from different diseases such as lung cancer to women. She also included that men and women have different brain formation which results in different stress responses.

According to Ogden (2017), men and women have different health behaviors which indicates that men have unhealthy way of living except in their muscular activity such as the foods they consume and other harmful nicotine and beverage intake. Whereas women are not physically active which is considered unhealthy. In this literature it is also said that men are not seen to change from their unhealthy behavior to improve their health. Though it is said that women have high depression due to life style they have Jonson (2017), Due to that women seek help early they get a better health and longer life span. In addition, to the above-mentioned differences, Ogden (2017) describes the difference on participating in a dangerous behavior that could potentially deteriorate their health which indicates men do usually dangerous works and other physical activities. Moreover, it is also said that men tend to use harmful chemicals like drug and alcohol. All this activity made men to have a shorter life span than women.

Furthermore, Ogden (2017) has described the impact of health care aid perception between men and women which the former has less sensitivity to their symptoms and go to treatment centers to have a diagnosis. Besides, it mentioned that men found to be more late reporting to health professionals and even no scheduled tests of their health where women do. Jonson (2013) in her video presentation has mentioned that the health care treatment given to women is meant for men as it is found to be designed in male animals on the research. She said had this treatment designed taking women into considerations, women could have way higher recovery of disease than men which could be related to the availability of health care to women is not appropriate.

In general, in this health care seeking Ogden (2017) has mentioned different factors that influence men’s health which comprises their cognition on symptoms, the social norms femininity of their own society, the cost of the treatment, and other health beliefs affect their health care aid visit. Whereas women have a better factor that they take initiative to go to health professionals to get diagnosis and treatment either to recover or manage the disease that was found by the professionals. On the other hand, Jonson (2017) has presented that women have higher depression due to different social norms and other life hardships which could have more influence on their health and life span. Moreover, men and women have different coping strategy that the later have better way of coping to get better health and management.
