Differences in Worldview - the Nature of Social Conflicts

This is worldview essay where I will examine some of the prime differences between a western world view and an aboriginal and Torres strait islander worldview. As a consequence I will analyse what kind of implications did this have for first people freedom and control of their land.

Worldview is a particular way of seeing the world. A worldview can concern an individual, group or society. many communities passed their worldview to their next generation such as their children to protect worldview continuity. Overall, it is a set of beliefs and values that are honoured and suppressed by a huge population. It also embraces how the individual or community interacts with the world around them including land, flora, fauna etcetera. There are a lot of variations between aboriginal and western viewpoints. This essay will elaborate on some of these differences and their impact on native people as well as a suggestion for their freedom and control of their land.

Essentially, Australian society is mainly related to western culture but also greatly impacted by the civilization of aboriginal and Torren strait islander people. There are huge characteristics between indigenous and non-indigenous worldview. Firstly, their relationship with the land is a significant factor in creating the variation in their point of view. For native people, the land is a blessed entity, not patrimony and it acts as a mother for all humanity. However, modern people only take the land as a resource for their benefits and development of their country. Furthermore, aboriginal and Torres strait islander community are mainly known by their deep connection with each other. This connectedness strengthens by various factors like law, kinship and spirituality. Natives were mainly sharing food, accommodation and work as a result their mutual understanding and unity got elevated. On the other hand, non-aboriginal people belong to compartmenlised society and their recognition comes from occupation and material possessionst. Moreover, western community mainly put money as an important resource. These assets are for their own use and benefits of the family group first and after that of community. Alternatively, for aboriginal society money has a same value as other useful resources like food, clothing, transport, housing etcetera. Nextly, kinship is at the heart of aboriginal society. Kinship is the most highlighting thing in the culture of aboriginals. They all are emotionally and mentally attached so that they divided their duties for giving support both financially and sentimentally to each other. On the contrary, modern people mainly think about their needs and they do not think about the success of others and demotivated their community people. They are not taking any responsibilities toward other people aa well as environment.

Additionally, Many Australian indigenous people faced lot of problems such as unemployment, discrimination, social illusion so on in their entire life. food insecurity is one of the main troubles for aboriginals. As Australia is a prosperous nation but still recent survey shows that food security among aboriginals and Torres strait islander peoples has not yet been attained. Food insecurity can refer to the following: not having enough food, experiencing hunger etcetera. For instance, rates of obesity are remarkably higher among indigenous people (29%) compared with non-indigenous people(17%) and proof that most of the people face obesity which experiencing food insecurity. Aboriginals and Torres strait islander people which have subsistence in distant, regional and metropolitan part of Australia are unguarded to food insecurity for a number of reasons such as cooking facilities, poor transportation etcetera that move to low income and lack to purchase affordable and healthy food to eat. As it also cause bad affect for urban people as poverty get happen which increased the cost of living and poor housing. Another element which disturb the life of native people that is Colonisation. This colonisation creates the worst impact on indigenous people through withdrawal of land, displacement and lose of culture. British colonisation is directly impact on land of aboriginals. They loss their control on their own land and their natural resources. Conquently, people deplete their languages, majesty, pleasure that are connected with land. Hence, to overcome these impulses many implications can take. Firstly, Australian government take many steps to providing benefits to first people for example, the Australian parliament passed ‘the nation tittle act 1993’granted for rights and interests of aboriginal and Torres strait islander peoples in land and other natural resources.by these rights first people get their freedom to do what they want to do such as hunting, doing their work etcetera. Moreover, many great personalities will fight for freedom and land rights like Ebbie Koiki Mabo who made a great change in 1992 and people get their land, traditions and custom. As government ongoing the rights to self-determination for the freedom of first people to live well and live according to their belief and value. As also nowadays, social provider should gain knowledge regarding spiritual relationship of native people with their mother land and their culture so every aboriginal people get their identity in this world.

To summarize, when all Australian citizens understand the prime differences between both worldviews that help in strengthen the relationship between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Also, it is the significant integrant to acquire cultural peace and respectful relationships. As it is also conclude that for first people of Australia, the mother earth is the core of the spirituality and this connection is revolve around to all situations that are initial to aboriginal people today. As fights and conflicts are natural in every history but we also get positive outcomes if it is properly organized and lessons are learned. Presently, plethora of aboriginal and Torres strait islander organisations are established their own governance their rules and regulations in order to encounter many challenges they face in their life. At end, Australian government should take great method to overcome these problems and develop strong relationship between aboriginal and western people.
