Difficulties To Achieve American Dream
The American Dream is one of the many things that draws people to this country of ours. The Declaration of Independence describes the American Dream as life, liberty, and property, however, what does that mean? Is it a dream that can still be achieved? My grandmother came from Mexico in search of better opportunities, not for herself but for her children. She got no more than a 4th-grade education and became pregnant by the age of 15. She had 7 children one of them being my mother, she was born in Los Angeles, California. Now my mom has achieved her own American Dream, she had 2 children, my sister being the youngest and I being the older brother. She finally was able to purchase her dream home and car with a career that she loves. My mother overcame many struggles such as living in poverty and having to drop out of high school to be able to support herself. I believe my mother is proof that the American Dream remains a goal that can be achieved. However, every person’s interpretation of the American Dream is different. Some want all the fame and money in the world while others just want a stable life with a family. One’s idea of their ideal life can only be achieved if you have the willpower and determination to do so.
Our ability to be able to think for ourselves if proof that accessibility to the American Dream is most definitely still there. We have the freedom to strive for our own happiness, however, we approach that happiness is completely up to us. Ambition is the driving force behind Americans, it is what makes us truly free. You will always hear and see someone achieve their dreams in America. It can be someone in your community, in your state or even on the other side of the nation. No matter where you are, there will be someone achieving their lifelong dream. But these dreams are not easy to achieve. In order to reach these dreams, you must overcome the obstacles whether they seem too impossible. The best part about attaining these dreams is feeling complete, feeling like your in a state of euphoria. Once those dreams are accomplished then anything is possible.
As an American, I believe that having a dream is important but not everyone has one. Those who don’t have a dream believe that it’s not right and will be pushed by others to have one. But it’s completely fine not having a dream. The beautiful thing about having a dream in America is being able to achieve one at such an old age. You can be 40-50 years old and barely start your dream career. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to achieve it, what matters to Americans is being able to accomplish it. I’ve heard of many teachers that have gotten bored of their job and decided to attend school again. That’s the beauty of having multiple dreams. Being able to finish one dream and being able to accomplish another within the same lifetime. This means more opportunities as well as being multi-talented. I believe that everyone that lives in America whether or not they are citizens should be able to stand strong and be proud of the fact that they made it in life.
But on the other hand, the American Dream can be one difficult thing to achieve. You’re ethnicity, skin color, age, and sexuality can be major factor to these obstacles. Even though America is seen as the land of freedom and equality, there are those who make it difficult. Being Hispanic nowadays especially living near Mexico is hard enough. There will be people that will make you look bad to the point where they tag you. For example, some racist Americans will yell at you if you’re not speaking “English” around them. They will even do everything in their power to get you deported or behind bars. You can even be a Muslim and be seen as a terrorist no matter if you’ve saved another’s life. There are good and bad sides to the American Dream. The true ones behind a troubling challenge isn’t America itself but those who are a part of it and those who run it. Not everyone in the United States are horrible people, it’s more diverse than you think.
In conclusion, the American Dream can be accomplished as long as you are willing to sacrifice for it. White or not it can be done. If you look around you, you can see many people going on with their average lives. But if you manage to look deeply you can see the determination on some of the people and how differently they see the world. The American Dream can be a beautiful thing but good things have their flaws.
