The Main Outcomes Of The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era was a big turning point in America's history. At the time, people began to not only advance industrially but also morally and mentally. People began to realize that people are people and that they should be treated as such. With this advancement, US citizens began to change America economically, socially and politically. The most notable events that happened in the progressive era was the road to get women's rights.
During the progressive era, the women's rights activist and social groups were huge. With all this popularity and publicity journalist began to follow these groups and they began to investigate the problems that the women were addressing. From the YMCA to the NACW all these groups wanted was to protect social welfare and Human Rights. Some groups even went as far as getting alcohol banned, this was called prohibition. The most success these groups have seen was the addition of the nineteenth amendment (women's Suffrage) to the constitution, and well the rest is history.
In 1893 there was a huge economic panic the lead citizens to question how well the capitalist system was working. Just like moral reformers, Economic reformers sought to reform and restore the United States economy. One of the main problems with the US economy at the time was improper circulation of money. Although there were factories mass producing products, there wasn't anyone to buy them because of high poverty rates. Most jobs at the time were terrible under pating, long hour factory jobs. Conditions were so bad it looked as if people were slaves working to mass produce products to sell just for the CEO's and business owners to make all the money. Not only were the people treated terrible but the products like food were created poorly and unsanitary. There was a Novel written about this problem named The Jungle. One man read this and sought out to take leadership of solving the problem all over america this man was the one and only Theodore Rosevelt.
Teddy rosevelt was not elected president but was elected vice president with his running partner William Mckinley who was unfortunately assassinated in 1901. Teddy took over and immediately started to act on his plans to solve problems in America. He went to solve the factory job problems by having mandatory health and safety regulations for all factories with the use of the Pure Food and Drug Act, and the ACT. Now wealthy factory owners of the United states could no longer capitalize of the poor defenseless factory workers. Also factory workers could earn a fair living for their jobs by the implementation of minimum wages. Now Money could be circulated back through America's economy through all the hard working americans. Teddy not only solved the factory problems but also helped build the federal government of today, with the help of his 44 books published at the age of 24 on how America needed a powerful Federal Government.
In conclusion the Proggressive Era shouldn't be classified as a good or bad time. Even though there was a lot of dark things that happened at the time there was a lot of good and ground breaking changes that came out of it. Weather it was women finally getting the rights they deserve or teddy roosevelt changing America for the better with the help of the laws he put in place for miss treated factory workers. All in all this time frame in American history shoulnt be opinionated as a good or a bad time. It should be classified as it is in its name.
