Education As An Integral Element To Sustain A Decent Living
My family belongs to the middle class household in Abu Dhabi which might be different compared to the category of middle class in the U.S. It would be tough for a middle class parent in Abu Dhabi to send their children abroad for their higher studies.
Education is the most integral element to sustain a decent living in any part of the world. I feel privileged and blessed to pursue my undergraduate degree at U.S.C. My parents wanted me to get the best education possible and that is one of the reasons for sending me abroad. I never dreamt of coming to U.S to pursue my degree, but my parents made me dream to get a good job in a multinational company. According to anthropologists, power or class is defined as wealth, income which would determine one’s status in society. Class is not permanent as life chances vary and they are determined by the efforts one has to put in to be on the same section otherwise one could see a downfall.
Wealth is not evenly distributed in U.S. due to many reasons including unequal distribution of property or wealth, gender, employment. These factors play an important role in determining wealth in a household. Few people associate themselves as part of upper class and the majority middle class which includes upper and lower middle class and the lower class. According to the New York Times, the top 1% holds 38% of property while the lower class held 73% of debt. This clearly shows that the lower class would have to borrow money to get basic needs fulfilled and it is a concern whether there is equality among positions held by people in companies. According to the federal reserve, a good number of household depend on Social Security, pensions and other benefits which they don’t get on time which is why they would borrow money to meet needs. People who hold wealth and property have influence to get all their benefits which make them much richer than the others. There is less chance for people belonging to a certain class move upward with time which could relate to many factors such as job, age etc. Factors such as education, skills, experience and motivation would help people move upward or within their class. It is frustrating to see the bias but it could be due to experience of better skills or access to education which could make one better than the other. In terms of the economy of the country it is not a good indicator for the long run.
