Factors That Contribute To Generational Differences In Intelligence And Age Differences In Wisdom
The millennials are smarter than the previous generation firstly with the widely available knowledge that is free and open to access for any one on the internet who chooses to access it. The education system is more advanced and this has an effect on the millennials most educationally systems are moving towards adopting plans enhance critical thinking and analytic thinking of their students. This millennials don’t believe in wasting time they like to save maximum time so most things are just done online or people are hired to do specific jobs. Millennials also has higher specialization in most areas which were not able to our previous generation’s, every business firm learners what to do and what not to do from previous history of originations and market trends hence the current generation is used to evaluating the consequences of each decision they make.
Through the years we have observed something called the Flynn effect, it is states that every few decades the average score of the general population keeps increasing steadily. This is noticed in over 30 countries over the past few decades, the reasons for the Flynn effect aren’t particularly clear, however the phenomena has been stable over time. This shows that was is considered average intelligence now would be considered above average in the time of my grandparents. Many sources contribute this increase in IQ with an increase in the nutrient levels in the past few, millennial are more health consciousness than the previous generations according to study done by the Halo group( 2017), 65% adults consult a nutritionist about their food choices, this can be further seen in the social media with think with Google a report stated that there 3. 9 million views treading healthy food and ingredients. This is not it to make sure they are healthy millennials are using phone apps to check their calorie intake, and motor their physical activity and sometimes even their sleep. The millennials are also want to explore different avenues in terms of their career and tend to change their careers till get the one they want six in ten millennials are open to new job avenues.
The millennials are more racially tolerant and less homophobic according to a Pew research Centre report in 2010. The milleninals are tend to have more diverse ways of expressing themselves whether it is getting tattoos posting videos online (Pew report, 2010). The previous generations are smarter than millennials in many ways and some of them are so basic that most days people would not think about them, so the millennials might eat healthier food but the generations before us (Gen X & Baby boomers) were healthy they would walk more on a daily average for basic necessities that we the millennials as generation can easily get. Millennial’s are born in a society which is consumer society where whatever they need is a click away from them. The older generation brain had more practical ability, they remembered numbers unlike the millennials who hardly even have one number remembered as they have their smart phones with all the information in them. It amazes me to wonder how the world worked before GPS and how did people travel but the earlier generations know how to find their way and read maps which are on paper unlike the maps on our smartphones that move with us and show our current location. The previous generation on an average knew how to communicate better with each other I am not talking about expressing feelings but formally there were no short forms that used in their letter writing which deroratiated their language. They also were socially more present these days if you sit and any restaurant and observer many people will be sitting and checking their phones rather than enjoying the company of the person who they are with. The older generations were surprisingly better with their financial matters according to a report by financial finesse, 2015 that youngest of the three generations had the lowest financial wellness score, it was reported that the millennials were more focused on short term goals, in contrast to this baby boomers had the strongest overall financial wellness score.
The baby boomers are all also currently the wealthiest in the world according to Financial Finesse, 2015 report. Another report released by Deloitte, 2015 states that “Generation X will have the highest increase of share in national wealth it will go from 14% to 31% in 2030”. It is also considered that the baby boomers and Gen X was hard working with high attachment to institutions (organizations that they worked for or political etc. ) which developed more stability in their life as they tended to be part of a particular origination or way of thinking for a long period of time.
There have been countless factors that affect this difference in these generations from the type and the quality of education to the political scenario, the technological advancement in almost all fields to the depreciation of money to increase in choices/ opportunities, influence of social media advocacy for various cause, all resulted in a differences some of them are good and some of them aren’t so beneficial which gives us a chance to improve because we still have some years left to catch up and changes things around.
