Frida Kahlo - Mexican Artist & Feminist

When an individual thinks of beauty what first comes to mind perfect face, small nose extra. Well this essay will discuss a beauty icon Frida Kahlo. Frida, a mexican artist became a cultural and feminist icon by, her experience of her childhood, her lovers and how her art came to be. Frida known as the lady with the unibrow changed the view of beauty on so many levels with her iconic style to forbidden romance.

To begin with, Frida was a woman of thought even when a youngin. Her childhood wasn’t less than great. Unfortunately Frida contracted “polio” (An infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system) and had to be bedridden for a little less than a year. “ Her father, Guillermo, encouraged his daughter to be active to help aid in her recovery.” - Evelyn Quezada Which helped her “Feminism blossom”. She was active indeed she even participated in abnormal sports for girls of her time such as, soccer, swimming, and, even wrestling. Later she enrolled into a Preparatory School which only reserved 35 female students which includes Frida.

As the school days went by she found interest in the medical field leading her to associate with like minded people. In addition, one out of the group of like minded people would end having a relationship with this unique female. “They formed a group “ Cachuchas,” lead by Alejandro Gòmez Arias, who Frida would later date.”-Evelyn Quezada. Sadly her medical school dream would halted forever because an extreme accident on a bus caused Frida to have a pierced back and broken pelvis.

Critical condition

She spent a little less than a year on bed rest due to that her art kept her occupied. She was gifted and easel that was customized to allow Frida to continue to lay down and paint with ease. This leads to her Iconic self portrait art, above the customized easel hanged a mirror so she could easily paint herself. “Throughout her life, Frida would continue to experiment with self portraiture, which eventually became recognized as defining in her body of work.” In the first paragraph mentions her father well, her fathers friend Fernando was an artist and recognized her talent from early which she ignored. Who knew she would end up becoming famous for her art in the future. Her art still is well known today.

To conclude, Frida Kahlo was a very talented and extraordinary person.
