Future Development Of Car Industry
Many think driver-less cars are the future, but if that is the future we have to look forward to, then we should just lose hope now. Driver-less cars would take away a driver’s intuition, and replace them with a logical robot. And distributing driver-less cars would be a probable nightmare. Also, if this robot crashed the car, then who would be responsible, the makers of the car or the owners.
First, driver-less cars will be controlled by robots. Robots are ruled by math and whatever logic has been programmed into them. They will probably be programmed to follow traffic rules and regulations, which is a good idea until you realize that the cars may have to break the rules to save people that they would otherwise hit. All in all, driver-less cars would be a bad idea. For example, driving over the double yellow line is illegal, any one who drives a car knows this. But what if to avoid hitting a child that ran into the road, one needed to swerve over the line. A human driver would do it, because in their mind saving a child is more important then rules. But a robot would simply hit the child because they are programmed not to break the rules. The driver-less cars could be programmed to not hit children, and break the rules in those instances, but it would be difficult.
Secondly, every driver already has a car of their own. If driver-less cars were not going to stay at each driver’s house, then they would stay somewhere in the center of town. Having the cars stay away from the people’s houses would mean that they would take more time to get to the person. This time constraint would cause people to want their own cars so they could just drive themselves places.
Thirdly, if the cars did crash. Because, they will crash. People may think that they won’t, but they will. And when these famously driver-less cars crash, who will be responsible? Usually the driver is responsible, but if the car has no driver, who would be the person paying for damages. A robot can’t, leaving possible contenders for the person responsible as the person who made the car, the person who programmed the robot and the person who ordered the car to take them somewhere. Obviously, the person who ordered the car to come and drive them someplace wouldn’t be responsible because they had nothing to do with the crash. And it is very illogical to force the person who made the car to be responsible, the same going for the person who programmed the robot.
Some people would say that driver-less cars will be a better way of transport by unclogging the roads and keeping people from crashing into each other. But they will not do either, causing more traffic by having all of the cars in a centralized location and filling the streets when they are trying to get to the person that they are supposed to drive. And, they will cause the same amount of crashing by accidentally hitting cars or people when they refuse to break the rules and decide that loss of human life is necessary to avoid deviating from their programming.
In conclusion, driver-less cars won’t be a good thing for America. The robots that drive the cars refusing to go against their programming and hitting people along with how they would be distributed and the legal nightmare that arises when a crash happens. Driver-less cars would fill the road and the robots driving them do not have the intuition of a human driver.
