Growth And Power Of The Great Empires And Kingdoms
Political entities, in simpler words, are the system of governing authorities which are set as per the governmental power structure (Kingston & Spears, 2004). Kingdoms, nation-states, empires are few of the examples of political entities. One of the best known political entities is the empire. The world has seen a huge rise and fall of the great empires during human civilization. There is number of history pages been filled with the title of success for different human races rules and their development covering the pages of the history. In early ages, we see the civilization of Egypt and Greece also Cyprus rule around the Babylon and Persian territory. Later in the middle time, we see Muslim caliphs are prominent on the pages for their rule, and they broke the superpower of that time like Byzantines and Persia, and they controlled over the major area of this historical ruler.
In modern age there was Ottoman Empire, Safavid Empire and Mughal empire those were controlling the biggest territories of their time for which later on they been broke into parts and became a part of British colonies (in South Asia). One of the greatest empires that we know existed was the Roman Empire which existed between 27 BC and 395 AD. Their territory was vast and widely extended from what we now know as France and The Great Britain, some portions of Africa for instance, Egypt and some portions of Asia which is now known as Turkey (Mitsikopoulou, 2008). Another greatest Empire that the world saw was of the Great Britain. It extended in most of parts of Europe and Asia notably, East India Company. The empire would be ruled by either an Emperor or an Empress anyone who would be in the power.
The rise of such territorial claims began because of the religious, cultural and social values of people during those times. Civilization was in the rise and people had their own beliefs. Some believed that god resided in the emperors and some believed that it was their duty to obey a person or a group of people who sustained power. With time, the territoriality extended from Empires to Kingdoms, nation states and city states. The major difference between a Kingdom and an Empire is that Kingdom used to flourish within a small area which would be ruled by a King or a Queen. Talking about city states, they have their own centralized power and authority over the people living in it. With the rising civilization and migration we do not see much of the City States these days some of them are Singapore, Vatican City there were a few city states in the Renaissance period as well, namely Athens, Sparta and Thebes.
While if we look to their power of time, territoriality plays a strong role in their rule sustaining for which they use to enhance their power in early ages; it was to rule as many areas as you can, and the control will make you superpower while in middle ages it was same. In the modern age, there was bit change in the influence of technology and economic growth which is going on till yet, but now economic factor matters more. As the gunpowder invention was given the invitation to Ottoman Empire to rule over the biggest territory. To be a sustainable ruler as expansion use to increase, there was the most important thing which we see with power is mechanism and communication. The territories were wide and the crises over and invasion issues led them to invest more on Army. Also, economic growth was also required, and they use to utilize their natural resources and trade because it was the mode of developing their self. In mainly, we see there is a proper department of spy and detectives directly approaching the ruler (Kunt & Woodhead, 2014). Perhaps, we can say for sustaining power, they use to increase army and economic growth.
