Helping People - My Dream Job

My dream job is to help people in every way possible and to make a change. I’ve always wanted to work in law enforcement of some sort, but that was not an ok career in my environment. So, I always pushed it to the back of my head and I’ve been in just about every career field that I could see myself doing for a career but it did not feel right to me.

I’ve been a CMA, Lifeguard, Cashier, Truck Driver, Lead driver, NFL security guard, and security guard for the Tropicana Field and the Rowdies. Out of all those jobs, the one that stuck to me the most was the NFL security. I was working every NFL game even if I had to travel with the team. From roaming to site visits, to locker room visits and armed guards, I played all roles in the Nfl security department. The most important position I’ve held was protecting The Weekend during the halftime show during the Superbowl. Escorting him to the stadium and back to his rental home, that was a very rewarding job because this I received 4 club-level tickets for next year’s Superbowl.

The next job I believe influenced my decision to get on track with becoming law enforcement is being a lead driver, I was able to teach and deter students to help them become great over-the-road truck drivers. I taught them how to back how to navigate and how to go through weigh stations. I also taught them what to do when going through a CSA test (DOT-Department of Transportation stop)and how to do a proper pre-trip and post-trip. That position taught me how to be patient and how I should confront a certain situation in a professional manner.

My lifeguard job provided me with the ability to be aware of my surroundings. For example, if I was working the lazy river I would have to look out for many things like misuse of any flotation device, rough play our test tube called “ The red tube” and if anyone requires help. This job also taught me how to multi-task because while working on a slide we would have to watch for misconduct while guests were on the slides and also check each tube before we sent the tube back up to the top of the slide.

My CMA job taught me how to handle people dealing with different situations. One of those situations involved one of my classmates I was partnered with, She had a sort of breakdown because of a lab we were assigned to do. We had to get 20 “good sticks” and she just couldn’t get the hang of finding the vein on the dummy arm. On her 30th stick, she still didn’t get it and I could see in her face she gave up. I asked her what part of the lab was her biggest problem she said she couldn’t find the vein, so I taught her a trick my mom showed me at home. Rub the arm and warm it up you will most likely see the blue vein when you warm that area up and also the bounce test if it doesn’t bounce don’t stick. Withing a couple of tries she got her first stick and in that instant, I knew I was good a helping people. That’s where I’ve now circled back to the Law enforcement career I’ve always wanted to do but was deterred by my family not to. I am a helper and problem solver and being an officer puts both of those things in one job, a job I can make a career.
