Horror Story: Genre, Understanding and Example
In this horror story essay I will tell you a little bit about horror, and then I will tell a story, and then at the end I will tell you what I have learned and what I think about horror stories.
Horror is a genre of speculative fiction which is intended to frighten, scare, disgust, or startle its readers by including feelings of horror and terror. A horror story is a story which the focus is on creating a feeling of fear. Such tales are of ancient origin and form a substantial part of the body of folk literature. Horror story often include witches, vampires, and ghosts. The genre was invented by Horace Walpole according to britannica.com. The horror genre has ancient origins with roots in folklore religious traditions, focusing on death, evil, the afterlife, the demonic and the principle of the thing embodied in the person.
Once upon there was man who lived in the middle of a forest, in a small house. The man had a dog but could barely afford having a dog. One day when he was about to go to bed, did he hear a weird noise coming from outside of his house, it sounded like something got thrown at the house, but when he went out to see what it was, could he see that it was a bird who had flown straight into the side of his house. He didn’t think much about it and went to bed.
The next day when he woke up and went into the kitchen for breakfast could he see that someone had killed his dog with a knife. He instantly called the police and hoped that they could find fingerprints on the knife, but the police couldn’t find anything. The man didn’t go to work that day and sat on his sofa and watched tv for the rest of the day. When he was about to go to bed that day could he hear the same noise as last night, he went outside and saw that a bird had flown into the side of his house once again, but he didn’t think much about it and went to bed. When he woke up the next morning and went outside could he hear a voice of a young boy screaming for help, he immediately ran towards the voice. The voice was coming from a lake close to his house. When he arrived at the lake could he see a hand going deeper and deeper into the lake, he jumped into the lake and swam to the arm and took it, the arm ripped of the body. The lake was too deep for him to swim down to get the body. He went out of the lake and looked around him, he saw a man with a mask staring at him. The man with the mask immediately ran away when he saw that the man had noticed him. The man followed his footsteps. It turned out that the masked man was hiding in a small shed. He went in and saw that there were stairs going down to an underground area. He was scared, but still decided that he would go down. When he came down, he saw hundreds of bodies chopped of, he got so scared and ran up the stairs and tried to go out, but the door was closed. He turned around and there stood the masked man with an axe and killed him.
In this a bit scary essay I have learned a lot about horror stories, I have done a lot of research but the story I came up with by myself. I like horror stories because they are interesting to read, but sometimes they can be a little bit sad, but when it comes to horror movies, I can't watch I get too scared.
