How Information Technology Affects Me

When I wake up first thing in the morning, I look at my phone, browse my emails, and text some friends. I walk down the stairs and tell the tablet on the table to turn on the lights. The tablet then sends information to the light switch and all the lights in the living room come on at 100%. Just in these few moments, I already used information technology.

Information technology has affected my life in many ways. Before the use of technology, being able to turn the lights on by voice could only be thought of as magical, but now it is simply a daily occurrence. This is especially true now that I am in college. Being a college student also means to be glued in front of a computer screen. The computer is a wonderful machine that allows me to complete numerous tasks. It allows me to write down my thoughts, file it, then later, share it. If I did not have information technology, I would have had to hand write my work and have it sent by mail. The car that I drive has a built in touch screen which is another form of IT. It connects to my phone and allows me to navigate my way to unknown locations. Without this, I would have had to rely on hand written directions or have to be told how to get to my destination by mouth. Information Technology has even affected the way that I buy the things I need. Instead of having to go to the store, I can stay on my couch. All I have to do is go onto a website, buy the items I want into the cart, add in my card information, and then I am done. In 2 to 5 days it arrives on my doorstep.

Now, not only does IT affect my life by allowing me to do these tasks during this time, it will also affect me later in life when I start my career. I want to be a veterinarian and work as a mixed practitioner. When working with large animals, a veterinarian’s technology needs to be portable. Veterinarians will often use a tablet to pull up a patient's files. The system they use will allow them to see any previous illnesses, surgeries, and vaccines without having to sort through lots of paperwork. In dairy production medicine, veterinarians will use computers to track enormous groups of data related to milk production. Information technology also affects the work of veterinarians by allowing the ability to communicate with their clients without having to meet them face to face. Veterinarians can simply send reminders for vaccines and checkups through emails automatically, so that they do not have to meet up or call each client to remind them.

Even if it's right now or in the future, Information technology will always be part of my life. It surrounds me every day as soon as I get up in the morning to go on my phone, to do classwork on my computer, and make use of the lights that turn on with just the sound of my voice. When I am done with my education and finally moved on to my career. Information technology will take on a greater importance. It will help me save and protect the lives of all the animals that I work with. It will allow me to keep track of health records, communicate with clients, and manage large amounts of data.
