Ignoring the Truth Cannot Help to Overcome Everyday Dangers

Oedipus the king” is an Athenian tragedy written by Sophocles in the 5th century. It represents the Greek culture in that time where they used to believe that no one can change the destiny written by God.

Oedipus who tried to change his fate became the king of Thebes because of his intelligence by solving the riddle of sphinx. He was also known to be a brave king who rushed to help and save his people. Unfortunately, he was not able to change his destiny, he was blind on his own truth. He killed his father and married his mother. After all these events, Oedipus discovered the truth. He ripped his eyes as a punishment for his blindness about seeing the truth. For many people, this story is meant to show that we cannot escape from our destiny. In fact, in another way of thinking, we can relate our destiny to two main points: the real truth of life and the mistakes committed during our life.

One cannot ignore the truth and the events that happen around. We can see everything with our eyes but this is not enough. We should be aware what’s happening around us to be able to control and make our own destiny instead of being blind to the truth thinking that we have made our own fate and discover with time that everything was like a dream and the real life was lying on us and we have built the wrong fate, because of our self-confidence and the ignorance of truth. A very clear example is happening now, the earth is attacked by the corona virus. Many of the people are ignoring the truth, they don’t commit the rule of protection from this virus that the World Health Organization had announced. They think that this virus is like any other normal influenza, it doesn’t cause any life danger. Unfortunately, the real sad truth is that this virus is very dangerous and it spreads out very fast causes a very number of infected and death people. Here, we have two options. The first one is to challenge the virus by taking all the precautions and creating our destiny and continuing our life as possible as we can, trying to protect ourselves and the people who we love and the people around us from being affected by the virus that can maybe lead to death. Or we can take the second option and do like what many of the people are doing, thinking that corona virus is a joke, and continuing their life as nothing happened, believing that their destiny in all cases will not change knowing that in this case they will subject the life of the people around to danger and maybe to death, accepting the idea that this is their destiny. In my point of view, I chose the first option, do all my best to change my destiny from sadness to happiness.

Looking at the things in my point of view shows that many mistakes occurred in this story and thus led to the miserable destiny. First of all, Oedipus, parents made a mistake when they decided to kill him after his birth. Another mistake is when Oedipus knew about his destiny and took his own decision to leave the city without telling his adopted parents about his decision. Here, we can also mention the wrongdoing by his adopted parents when they hid the truth about his real parents. All these mistakes could have been a turning point in Oedipus life if they had been accomplished in the correct way. Life is a chance. This chance is a gift given by god which helps us to walk on the correct road written by god. This road is the real fate that the human should have. So, we should be very aware about what’s happening around us, knowing the real truth and taking the right decisions to be on the right destiny.

To conclude, one can say that life is but a chance given by God who draws beautiful days for every person, but the evil is there and works to put any person in bad situations. In this case, one have to pursue the good chance, face the difficulties in life by knowing the truth, solving the riddles of the difficulties, trying not to make fatal mistakes and working to take good decisions and never lose a chance. Thus, making life more realistic and sure the destiny will be more grateful.
