It is not easy for those immigrants to leave everything behind to come here to work hard to become a better person and help their families.Over the years, there has been a growing sentiment that immigrants pose a threat to American society because they have been associated with crimes in New York.
According to the research “Crime and Enforcement in Immigrant Neighborhoods: Evidence from New York City.” by Jeffrey Fagan and Garth Davies, in past years immigration has been associated with drugs, alcohol, gangs, delinquency, and organized crime. In addition, the crime rate is related to the condition of the neighborhood. On the other hand, the crime balance is lower in neighborhoods with the higher immigrant percents. In New York, most Immigrants face discrimination and racism at least once in their life. This is caused by many ignorant people who think that all immigrants are criminal and they do not do anything for this country. Even the president Donald Trump wants to make “America great again” which in his concept is without immigrants. Unfortunately, there are so many stereotypes about immigrants such as criminals, terrorists, junkie, and rapists and a lot more. The government of the United States considers that immigrants in New York affected the economic negativity. According to the article “ Do Illegal Immigrants Actually Hurt U.S economy?” by Adam Davidson in the New York Times newspaper, “ illegal immigration does have some undeniably negative economic effects. Labor economists have concluded that undocumented workers have lowered the wages of U.S. adults without a high school diploma — 25 million of them — by anywhere between 0.4 to 7.4 percent.” Based on this article, immigrants have positive effects in the economy of this country.
According to Francis Wilkinson, Donald Trump believes that the major economic problems in the United States exist because of immigrants. For this reason, he wants “American Great Again” because in his point of view immigrants are taking jobs from Americans and this is affecting the development of American people. In addition, he believes that the immigrants bring crimes and terrorism to this country. Thus, he wants to expand the e-verify system to reduce the amount of illegal immigrants employees to pretend unfair wage. Furthermore, the perception of some people is that newcomers are taking jobs away from Americans. The Democrat Party support immigration because they know this country is made up of immigrants. For this reason, they provide opportunities to immigrants to help develop themselves. According to Public Religion Research Institute, 54 % of Americans believe that growing number of immigrants from other countries helps strengthen American Society. 48 % of Americans do not agree with this.
For this reason, we have Donald Trump as our president. The United States has increased the border security for the last couple of years to prevent illegal immigration. After Donald Trump got to the presidency, the border security was reinforced to make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to cross the borders to attend entre the United States. According to the article “Wanted: Skilled immigration Lawyers' by Ann Farmer, 7,000 parents of citizen children in New York City were deported in from 2005 to 2010. About 60 percent of the immigrants who are facing deportation do not get the chance to have lawyers by the time their case is closed. The legal assistance for immigrants is insufficient in New York City and all across the United States. Illegal immigrants should be treated fairly and be given the opportunities to get their legal documents to get a permanent residence. However, Donald Trump is working on a program to keep families united because every year many families are separated due to deportation to one or more of their family members.Immigrants contribute deeply to the United States economy because of their cheap labor. According to the office of the New York State Comptroller, immigrants help to keep and develop the skilled workforce which is important to maintain a strong economy.
Furthermore, immigrants have a high percentage of employment in different industries. They contribute deeply to the United States economy because they take the jobs Americans do not want to deal with. Trump believes that immigrants are taking jobs from Americans, but in reality immigrants do the type of jobs Americans do not want to do such as maids, Housekeeping Cleaners, pressers, Textile, Garment, and Related Materials, taxi drivers and many more. We need to be mindful that not all immigrants are illegal, consider the significant economic contributions throughout the city. Therefore, many of those people that are deported are being to their native country when they have lived their entire lives in the United States because their parents brought them here at a young age. Why not give them the opportunity to go to college? How would that affect the U.S economy? That won't affect U.S economy otherwise, that will help to improve it because they have to pay taxes on loans they might have to take to pay college. When they finish with college, they will get jobs which will generate money and keep the economy flowing. They will pay taxes. According to the office of the New York State Comptroller, 73 percent of immigrants in New York have a high school education or higher and about 48 percent had completed college.
