Immigration In United States
Immigration in the united states has once again taken the spot light. The spot light has been both negative and positive reason. The surged in recent migrant population are coming from our southern border. According to (Grieco et al. 2012), In 2010 there were forty million foreign born persons living outside their country of birth. In spite of the current undocumented act and discrimination against immigrants. Many Americans believe that not all immigrants are criminals or terrorist. Most see immigrants as individuals looking for a better life and contribute meaningfully to the US economy.
In united states, we are quick to say illegal immigrant but fail to realized majority of the earlier inhabitant were all immigrant from England. Today, we focus so much on closing our borders and forgetting the fact that immigrants are among the hardest working Americans today. I don’t think there should be any such thing as illegal immigration in this nation. One thing needed for sure is weeding out the criminal immigrants and leave alone the law-abiding citizens who play a greater role in growing American economy. Pushing too hard with control of the immigration could further place a divide between the liberals and conservative, there should be more focus on incorporating those immigrants who are legally in the country.
Immigration is a very concerning issue today both in united states and around the world. The recent immigration crisis toward our southern border has created a divide among Americans. There are many who are in favor of the measures taken by our present and there also those who are absolutely against it. Immigration should be monitored in due to issues that may arise from employment issue for the host nation. There are people who believe immigration is the cause of terrorism and sectarian crimes in this country. While there may be some kind of truth that immigration caused terrorism in America based on the Boston marathon and 9/11 bombings. In the case of Boston Marathon, there is certainly a truth because the bomber was an immigrant from Russia. In the case of 9/11 terrorist bombing, some of the alleged perpetrators lived in the united states for years before returning back to their home countries and eventually coming to bomb America (Miller, 2014).
Migrants have always played a vital role in the improvement and sustainability of united states economy.
Political Unrest
One of the recent cases of political unrest leading to migration was the Venezuela election result protest. The country of Venezuela has been caught in a downward spiral since the death of their revolutionary leader Hugo Chavez leading to recent political discontent further fueled by sky rocking hyperinflation, power cuts, high unemployment rate and shortages of food and medicine (Maya, 2014).
The down spiral political struggle has continued to the current situation between President Maduro and the opposition leader Juan Guido. President Maduro is not willing to adhere to new elections or relinquish power even though he has been accused by international committee of oppressing his critics. Majority of these oppressor has fled to neighboring countries as well as the united states (Mejia, 2018).
Another political unrest which has led to surged in united states immigration population is the Honduras political crisis. Honduras migration started in the 1990s during their civil war, almost everyone who left when the civil war broke out were headed for the united states. Many years after migrants left for the united states, many secured jobs thereby supporting family members left behind. As a result, the same emigrants started contributing greatly to their home country economy through remittance (Reichman, 2013).
Employment
The united states have been perceived by the world as a land of opportunity and a place where everyone dream can come through even with the minimal effort on succeeding. As in any country where people tend to migrate to has it own critics. Obviously, the American citizens worried about a drop-in wage and the failure for these immigrants to assimilate quickly in the American culture (Abramitzky & Boustan, 2017). Lack of employment is also one of the biggest reasons why migration occurred. Many individuals believe united states is a land of opportunity, with that being said they can make a better living here once they are able to reach America (Summer, 1992).
Underemployment and lower salary also lead to increase immigration from third world countries to United states where many consider land of opportunity and freedom (Summer, 2012).
Opportunities are also some of the reasons migration to the united states is consider a better choice. Many believe united states make it much easier to climb up cooperate with higher education without prejudice to their back ground, religion or nationality (Summer, 2012).
Religious freedom and freedom of speech
In today’s political hostile nations around the world, freedom of speech against the sitting president has become a crime where one can be jail for number of years without proper trial. It has become norm of lots of semi dictatorship countries. Even democratic governments are becoming part of the oppressive ideas. We saw that happened in the middle east regions which started the Arab spring. Many of those who escape these oppressive regimes finds themselves in the united states seeking asylum.
United states is a country that encourages and practice freedom of every kind. This is one of the few nations on earth where you can practice any religion of your calling without prejudice. Even with the recent spry of Islamophobic attacks has not caused an alarm. There are many security measures put in place to protect Muslims place of worship. I read an article where China cracking down on Muslims in the country, the government forcing Muslims to eat pork and drink alcohol to find out if an individual is a Muslim or not (Ochab, 2019). Such incident could eventually lead to many of the Muslims population to migrate either to united states or elsewhere where they can comfortably practice their religion. With the current administration, America is quietly leaning to that effect wherein religious movement being restricted in some places across the country. We experienced such issue in Victoria, TX few years ago when a 26-year-old man set a mosque on fire due to hate (Herskovitz, 2018). Unless human right groups and the citizen fight back against such sentiment in order to repress it down.
Conclusion
Many people argue that immigrants are skilled labor and they contribute greatly to the local economy. Some people look at immigrants as a treat in their societies. Immigration is also a great business for many due to lower than minimum wage pays out to some undocumented and documented workers who are new in the country. Political unrest, religious freedom and lack of employment, and the pursuit of the “American dream” are some of the major reasons recent surged in America immigration population developed a hot topic in every tabloid across the nation. Immigration is a major problem facing the united state today. Hundreds of thousands of migrants from all over the world enter US yearly, while some entered lawfully, others illegally or some in the form of tourist visit with no intent of returning to their country of origin. You also have those who migrate to the US with the intent of giving birth in the country. In order to done away with some of these issues of migration to the united states, the government will need to implement more stringent laws or policies to curb illegal migration.
In the event that nothing is done to balance the movement of people to the US, many believe the populace will keep on becoming significantly increased, not because of births. The increase flow of migrants could make that a possibility. Migration could turn into a much progressively major issue in the US on the off chance that the administration does not create stricter laws. The legislature must create a stricter law limiting movement to avoid overpopulation in the united states.
