Implications Of The Cultural Inverse Values

Cultural narrative is derived from the simplest and purest aspects in which functionalize the harmony of societal validity. It is often described as the building blocks for which catalyze unique tones in differentiating values. These can conjugate themselves into the moral fiber, therefore, instilling themselves into societal values. However, the status quo does not stand unscathed, and, is often the basis of reciprocating ideals. The idea of a phantasmic structure- chaining itself to the cultural narrative can seem claustrophobic in nature to one whos culture embellishes individualistic ideals. Singularity was interwoven into American culture throughout our history, however, the contrast of inverse ideas can help an individual, like myself, unveil their personal identity- therefore, recognizing the unique moral value entrusted within. The relative situation of inverse values provided an alternate way to describe the functions of our world. Often redundant in nature were the expression of emotions in our society.

Lacking in tension, this created a personal feeling of monotony- specifically in the fields of the arts. I would often find myself predictable in how I projected different emotions in any context; however, one day I found myself reading an interview about a peculiar, young british musician: Jacob Collier. He described a musical performance he participated in by the great Benjamin Britten: “The Turn of a Screw”. In this, he noted that to provoke a sense of originality- they wrote down each line they were to sing as well as an adjective to describe the line. In context, this seems as a norm established to further embark on their musical journey- rather, it was a moment that changed the process of personal expression. The director explained to them- that to conjure a familiar yet unbeknownst atmosphere- they were to indulge on the reciprocal of the adjective they wrote down. Instantaneously, I realized this is what was missing in our society, the notion of alternate deliveries of everyday expressions. One-dimensional analysis- or rather taking things at face value is inadvertently used to decode multitudes of situations throughout everyday encounters. This in hand is responded with another one-dimensional response. However, after reading and analyzing this article, a new concept revealed itself slowly to me.

A famous math concept is One over Infinity; it is the idea of infinitely small- a value that can break itself down to measure any given slope. In relation, you can think of a phrase as a slope, and, the emotion or projection as the value that will be broken down. Simply seeing the value would be a one-dimensional analysis of the phrase; this creates the one-dimensional response. Inversely, you can break down the word into infinitely small portions and assign each portion a different emotion or projection. This concept, when applied to conversation creates a three dimensional space in which opens an infinite amount of conversational counterpoint. To come to this conclusion, I first applied this theory to the musical concept of functional harmony. Harmony is the action of two or more notes played simultaneously to evoke emotion. Often harmony, just as conversation, seem vanilla in many cases; this is where the concept of One over Infinity plays its hand.

First, you take the note and find the relative harmony- then break it down infinitely small. Second, you will find the emotion you want to express through this tone, then use an array of emotions and find which relation fits your taste. Whether it is alternate tunings, notes, scales, or any musical expression, it can be expressed by pairing with it an unconventional value. Conversation, just like music, uses different styles and counterpoint to express the feelings of oneself. For an example of musical One over Infinity we can use chord B flat major. When B flat major is played at the tuning of A=440hz it creates an explosive feeling- nearly outdoors. However, if you are going for a quieter-petite notion, you can use the concept to break down the chord. To evoke the feeling of being inside- or quiet, you can use the tuning of A=432. This would not be possible if only analyzed at face value. Applicable to conversation, you could take the phrase ‘I long for a dream’. Some might express this using a whimsical tone, however if you break this down and apply the tone of hopefulness or even envy- it projects the same idea yet creates tension and a familiar yet unprecedented tone.

The realization of multi-dimensional conversation completely changed the foundation of which I analyze and interact in our society. I believe wholeheartedly that we, as a people, will forever be restrained through binary conversation in the masses. Yet, synthesized from the minds of our fathers and our own, we have an infinite array of compositional relationships free from restriction. When used adequately, expressions are palpable; elementary expressions will fill yet another void of hollow, mindless, frequencies. Depth of concept will fill out the hollow space and synthesize another layer to society; furthermore, it will continue to develop us to the next step of societal and cultural growth. Defying singularity will denounce the stigmatism of ignorance in converse, creating a culture of rich and unique conversation.
