Balancing Formality and Informality in Writing: An Exploration
A language is either delivered through words or actions which all people use to express their thoughts and feelings. It is the key to our learning in which it could help us better understand what other people mean and wanted to convey. Different and countless versions of languages are created by a particular group in a unique and different style depending on the group's interests and appeals. It is the way of communicating to other people to have an exchange of ideas and information.
In English grammar and literature, there are two types of language: The Formal Language and Informal Language. Both languages could be used in writing or in speaking but varies when used for different situations.
The Formal Language has this serious atmosphere. It is commonly used in talking to those persons whom we don't really know. In using this language, it should have an objective to be followed and have a control in using such words. These words must be written in full and should have no contractions. It should contain more complex sentences which has a specific vocabulary. This language is present in business letters, job interviews, class essays or any places where there is formality. In Informal Language, there is this friendly atmosphere. It is commonly used in conversing to people whom we know the best just like in our friends or family. This could either be used in a funny, or a normal way just like in writing a friendly letter, creating text messages, journal writing and jotting note. This language allows any contraction of words and contains a slang vocabulary created by a group of people with punctuations depending on their interests and dialect.
Language plays an important role in our lives for it is our way to bond and interact with different kinds of people. Everyone has the freedom to use these kinds of languages but should have limitations. We should be aware of the choices of words we are about to use depending on the place or situation you are in and the people you are with. Through this, it will help you to blend with other people and be able to fit in. And because of this, we all have the opportunity to learn new different things from different people.
