Importance Of Gender In Career Choice
There is study related to cognitive ability that sex difference related to intelligence level of both gender and in the 19th century it is believed that women were less intelligent then men on which Charles Darwin also proposed his idea that intelligence related to intellectual power of men and their strength.
This is quite an interesting fact for me that intelligence is measured according to gender, but now psychologist believe that intelligence consists of multiple factors that are separated but correlated with each other and these factors also include cognitive tasks and mental ability measure by procedure known as factor analysis in which different underlying factor make cluster for example if person score high in his exams consider as intelligence there is nothing related to gender.
Another fact that is interesting is Visual-Spatial task in which people identify relation and navigate it in 3D space, this concept says that men have better visual-spatial task and they perform better than women (pg.232), however, this doesn’t make any sense and theory supported idea the more exposure you have to certain situation the more better you would perform, eliminating the sex difference, so eliminating the fact of gender if I play more games and spend my more time in extracurricular activities then definitely my Visual-Spatial performance will increase and better.
There is another topic willingness to guess on the test and according to research there are two conditions “with penalty” and “without penalty”. Boys are more likely to behave same in both conditions while female in first condition attempt all questions whereas in the second condition they are less likely to take guess then men and this is the reason why women scoreless in SAT than men. This is so relatable to me I always don’t prefer to take a risk and guess in penalty condition in order to avoid fewer marks, so according to my point of view, willingness is also a factor which measures intelligence and men are more willing to take the risk than women.
Gender is also important in choosing a career for example women are more likely to choose or peruse that career which enhance their interaction and they want social appraisal whereas men are more likely to do work with computer and machine. Personally I don’t believe on this point because the career choices depend on our field of interest, in my own family my female cousins pursue their career in computer engineering so it’s all depend on your taste.
