Incorporation Of The Old Methods From Sparta To Change Modern Society For Better
At the height of their power from 431-404 BC, Sparta had just defeated their rival city-state Athens in the Peloponnesian war. It was the most amazing warrior society of that time period and it is continuously raved about even today.
The ways of the Spartans were very advanced for the time period and the way they dealt with issues in their society was always fair for everyone. Considering the way things are in the world today, I think that we should go back to using the same tactics the Spartans did in order to see a real change for everyone, for the better. The problem we see in the world today is that everything has gotten way too lenient. Canada has abolished the death penalty, and the life sentences aren't even for life. It's like the Canadian government is trapping even the most dangerous criminals in a room but then they’re like “Wait, it’s hot in there I'll crack open a window for you,” and then giving them the tools to bust that window wide open and escape without consequences.
Another disappointing issue is that people these days can barely defend themselves in case of attacks because they are; not fit enough, lacking proper training, or they're just plain scared. That is no way to live. The Spartan’s had a superb way of making sure these issues that we have nowadays weren't issues. At the early age of 7, the Spartan boys were introduced into a harsh and demanding state-sponsored education, military training socialization program. They were ripped from their parent's homes to start training immediately. This was used to mold them into perfect warriors and moral citizens. I think this is exactly what we could use, start training everyone young so early on they know how to defend themselves against predators. They wouldn't get to see their families for a number of years until their training was deemed to be complete, but I feel as though this builds a strong character and sense of independence. If we do this with all of the children, our country will have even stronger soldiers. The boys were also prepared for being out in the field at the age of 12, by leaving them without clothes other than a red cloth and forcing them to make their own bed out of reeds. They were also enforced to scavenge or steal their food, but if they were caught they would be battered with a flogging. Any 12-year-old boy that could get through a good old-fashioned beating from a Spartan warrior would definitely make an amazing soldier in the future.
Young girls were also put through arduous education and training to strengthen them for motherhood. This is a great option that will ensure that the women can properly bear children like they were meant to do in the first place. By using the old ways of the Spartans, we will be able to ensure that the weak will be weaned out, which will also fix the ongoing concern of overpopulation.
