Influence, Misunderstanding And Attitude – Things That Impact Our Life Tremendously

The first thing you see, if you pay attention, is how we are raised or how we view the world and how we see the world. Those are our beliefs and judgments. We don't question those things. The way we are taught, the things that our parents have taught us, or the environment in which we surround ourselves impact our views. One enters the world, first, purely with the knowledge of what our parents have shown us. Then we start learning from what we experience. As stated previously, we are impacted by our surroundings. Then one learns to make their own decisions based on our values. However, the problem is people don't always make their own decisions based upon their values. Influence is one thing that seems to control us.

Another thing that seems to impact our lives is misunderstanding. Misunderstanding can apply to everyone. Nobody knows about a person until that person reveals themselves. Unfortunately, we make our judgments about others before taking time to understand them. People can be hypocrites. They often do what they hate and without, even, realizing it. People will sit there and swear, on everything, that they are not hypocrites. They may, even, take it as a sign of disrespect if someone brings it to their attention. So, one may be forced to let people figure it out on their own the majority of time. The main problem, though, is the ‘I don't care attitude’. Today, people don’t seem to care about much. That attitude is, actually, encouraged by some of our peers. For example, in school many students come to school with their mind set on doing the minimum, which influences other to follow their work ethic and contributes to a negative school climate. Youth. org reports that, “a negative school climate is linked to decreased graduation rates and poor student achievement”. There seems to be a world where people only think about themselves in a, me-first, fashion. If we are all about ourselves we can't help anyone else. We don't see all sides of a situation. Everything offends us and because of that we are quick to attack, especially those who challenge us. We also don't know when we are wrong and we, oftentimes, have too much pride to admit we are wrong. Pride seems to be part of the problem, as well. This needs to stop. As a result, we always think we are right when most of the time we are in the wrong.

Our values are misplaced. Things that should not be valuable are very important to us, like shoes. People need to readjust their priorities! One would think our attention would be focused on those things that would benefit us. Instead, it is always the things we don't need. We focus on the negative things because our generation finds it exciting and not boring. Instant gratification contributes to this problem. It “is addicting and often becomes a habit”. This habit becomes a part of our daily lives and contributes to the downfall of our society.
