Intel Social Responsibility Report

Intel is a striving company and one of the tops in the information technology field. Through their website, they have shared an abundant amount of resources and information regarding corporate social responsibilities and their views on how they fulfill them. Intel has accumulated creative and impactful contributions to society to fulfill these goals in order to set their direction to a more responsible company. Although Intel has fulfilled plenty of social responsibilities, we can pick out 5 responsibilities and see in depth on their views and motifs behind their actions and goals. The 5 social responsibilities include Community Development and Involvement, Diversity, Employee Relations, Environment, and International Relations.

Community Development and Involvement

Intel gives back to the community in many different aspects. Intel strongly believes in a bright future and believes benefiting the community will provide a better environment for all businesses. Intel currently has a Matching Grant Program which encourages and aims Intel employees to engage and volunteer in non-profit and non-governmental organizations in which Intel will donate or match $10/ hour volunteered once 20 hours minimum has been accumulated. The Intel Foundation was created in order to help communities around the world recover from the natural disaster crisis’. When Natural disasters strike, the Intel Foundation responds. During hurricane Maria, the Intel Employee Service Corps rushed to Puerto Rico to aid infrastructure damages and provided long-term solutions towards the community. Intel also participates in many environmental challenges, donations and encourages employees to share their experiences around the world. Intel employees volunteered over 10 million hours towards communities. These are only a few to name examples of the abundance of support Intel has provided towards not only their community but towards communities all around the globe.

Diversity

Diversity is a critical aspect towards Intel’s success and they put in a large amount of effort to make this a reality. Intel believes that to shape our future, they need to bring all types of people together in order to have a wide range of perspectives, background, and experiences. According to their diversity snapshots, Intel has a stable growth rate of minority races per year. Since 2014, the gap to full representation narrowed from 2300 employees to 376 employees which were an 84% growth. Intel aims to reach full representation among employees in 2020.

Employee Relations

A promise Intel has made towards their employees is that they will help employees grow and make a positive impact on the world. They do this by encouraging employees to break barriers, innovate and break the limits of the employee’s capabilities. Employees are given an abundant amount of opportunities to work on different projects and is trying out many techniques in order to fit their work style. Teamwork is pushed on all employees and believes a team cannot be successful without a contribution of everyone within the group. An employee is a family member towards Intel and they strive to listen to all employees in order to have a unique contribution of voices.

Environment

Intel is committed to being a leader for environmental sustainability. According to Ann Kelleher who is the Senior VP, “. . . reducing our environmental impact not only benefits our business and our communities but is the right thing to do. ”. Intel has a variety of operations and tactics in order to minimize negative environmental impact. One of the big goals Intel has towards the environment is to restore 100% global water usage by 2025. In the past 2 decades, Intel was able to conserve and return 80% of the water back to the ecosystem. Intel is always pursuing ways to reduce emissions, enhance energy management, use sources of renewable energy and continue to create environmental goals. Employee engagement is a big factor for reaching environmental goals which are why Intel recognizes employees with environmental awards and encourages others to do the same.

International Relations

Intel has established connections to countries all around the world. They have built a huge network and manufacturing footprint which gave them the scale, capacity and the ability to reach and establish new technologies. Across the world, Intel has established factories, sites, offices and events which further develops technology and information. Currently, there are 46 countries containing Intel facilities.

Proactive Strategy

Intel is following a proactive strategy. Intel is not only meeting expectations legally, ethically and environmentally, but is surpassing these expectations by a colossal amount. Intel believes that in order to be one of the top companies, they must take initiative and to engage more to create a larger impact. They have strong values for equality, the environment and to make everything fair and transparent as possible. They are investing hundreds of millions of dollars which they didn't need to do but they still felt obligated to. In each one of the social responsibilities, Intel has represented a strong value for it and creates many detailed goals for the future. When a company sets goals, this shows that they want to achieve improvements in order to expand and strive. However, when a company sets goals in non-required sections for example environment, this shows that they are going above and beyond the call of duty.

As a conclusion, Intel is a striving company which is on a continuous path of growth. They value social responsibilities greatly and puts the people in the company and community before profits. They fulfill many social responsibilities such as Community Development and Involvement, Diversity, Employee Relations, Environment, and International Relations. They also put a great emphasis on future and goals in order to minimize obstacles which may get in the way of projects even within social responsibilities. Intel successfully has a balance of social responsibilities while still being as productive as they can be. Because of this, the general public will have a positive outlook on Intel as a company.
