A Discussion of Whether the Youth is the Hope of the Fatherland

Looking back from the past. You can really see a gap from generation to another. There’s a huge difference as to how people live, react, and go through society. We have nothing to do with the weapons created in the past. The war now is over and humanity is facing a new war. The 20th century weapons can’t solve what has been planted today. We are young and our ideas are as good as new. We have new visions and new hope for our fatherland. We are growing in a whole new world. People are no longer distant and they no longer consider one another as enemies. We are no longer afraid to speak out to people that are not familiar to us nor to a foreigner. We built trust with each other. We, the young generations, now have the courage to speak and tell the truth. But the question is, are we really the hope of our fatherland? Let`s deal with this question in "Whether the Youth Is the Hope of the Fatherland: Essay".

The UN, for statistical consistency across regions, defines youth as the transition of dependence from childhood to adulthood and awareness as a member of a community. Youth are persons who are between the age of 15 to 24.Youth is synonymous to the word life. They bring a new set of adventures, philosophies, and life beliefs that would make a great impact in our nation building. Guardians of tomorrows is today s young generation. The directors of our future nation. According to Shamsur Rahman, “Youth is the time to join war, youth is the time to fall in love.”

Way back during Rizal’s time, he wrote “La Instruccion” while the nation is under the influence of Spaniards. It was somehow understandable that they weren’t treating the Filipinos fairly. We were inferiors for years and our freedom was taken away from us. Now that we are free from colonization and enjoying the freedom that are forefathers fought to achieve, do we still have an excuse for our wrongdoings?

Admit it or not, education is the milestone of every type of national development. As what Rizal said, education will be the solution to the problems, but why is it education is one of country’s biggest problem?

According to Philippine Statistics Authority, 42.3% of the time, the students’ reason to left school is because of early pregnancy, marriage or family. The high cost of education or financial concerns comes next with a 20.2% and lastly, 19.7% of the students have lost their interest for school. Education is one way of building a person’s confidence which is a crucial characteristic that we can use in our day to day life. If a person is educated, they can easily cope with the changing demands oflife. Education is not for students alone but for everyone. It is not exclusive. Through this, people could see the importance of goals and values of nation.

The youth of today is different from the Maria Clara concept that we used to have. Having sex at a young age is a rampant thing. You’ll see teenagers getting pregnant at a young age. What’s worst is that, they are all jobless, did not finish school or they are still dependent to their parents. Society’s huge problem today is premarital sex. Girls are having their sexual debut in their boyfriends’ homes thinking that it’s just some kind of game without minding the consequences afterwards. The youths have the tendency to think that having sex is one way of showing how much you love a person. What’s scary about this idea that they have in mind is that, when things are no longer in their favor, their answer to solve the issue that they are facing is abortion.

They would give up everything just to show affection for the one that they love. It may be cringe for some but they won’t mind how everyone around them would react. Youth are immature and innocent, they are curious about trying new things in their adolescences.

As the Newton’s third law of motion says, “For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction.” We must always remember that the actions we did today will not just affect our tomorrow but also the future of the coming generations.

Youths are fund of looking forward with new ideas to improve our country. Youths have the courage to experiment with new ideas and invention. And it is necessary for the betterment of our country. Youths will not be the fair hope of our fatherland if they are not molded by the past generations. We should keep in mind that without the past generations, it is impossible for us to hope for the future generations and our fatherland. Teach the youngsters before the world and society teach them. Now this is what counts and why it is up to all of us, to change hope into reality.
