John Muir - The "Father Of National Parks" In America
John Muir was born April 21, 1838 in California. John was worked by his father with his siblings since a young age. He always worked hard, but when he had a break he went on hikes through the forest with his younger brother. Each time he went on these hikes he fell more and more in love with nature. “Keep close to Nature’s heart.” this quote says how he loves nature and advises others to keep what is important to him, to them also. John grew older and was an amazing inventor and woodworker, and was going to Michigan State. One day while he was working he had an accident that gave him temporarily blindness for a month. As he gained his sight back he returned to the place he loved after a long, detoured trip.
Sierra Nevadas, California is where he stopped and founded the Sierra Club, to do something for nature and make the mountains glad, and he was the president of the club until he died in 1914. John loved the Sierras and the woods in general and he was the best press for them. John Muir was the “Father of our National Parks”. He always fought for them, with amendments like that of “forever wild”, which slowed timber barons and scorched earth logging particles in New York. John Muir fought in giant cases to protect the national parks of Yosemite and Sierra Nevada, and won. John saved the Sierras, where now a days it would be California’s coast and redwoods representing natural beauty.
John was also the best press for Nature, he always wrote articles about the importance and beauty of Nature with the help of his father-in-law after he married in 1880. He was also a lasting press figure in general about all the articles he wrote. All 300 of his articles, talking about controversial topics in his field, like the Yosemite Valley. John quickly became well known in America for his efforts to save the wilderness, which brought famous and powerful men to his pine cabin door in the woods. John also wrote 10 books concerning Mother Nature, and protecting their beauty. John’s work took all over the world like Australia, Europe, And China, but he always found himself back to his lovely Sierra Nevadas. John Muir was personally involved with the creation of Sequoia , Mount Rainier , Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon national parks. This is where he deservedly got the name “Father of our National Parks”.
John’s articles and his popularity put him in line with people of power like the president of the United States. The Sierra Club help found many of President Roosevelt’s innovative and conservative programs. Sadly, in 1914, after visiting one of his two daughters, Mary, he caught an illness and died in a Los Angeles hospital on December 24, Christmas Eve. John Muir was a man with a Lasting impression in America. In 1979 he was selected “The Greatest Californian” for his efforts in saving the Sierra’s. In 2006 Governor Schwarzenegger chose a murail of John for the Yosemite himself, because of John’s prominent leadership that made people appoint him president of the Sierra Club which lives on today. John is possibly the biggest naturealist and nationalist to date. His words saves forests and made national parks to demonstrate American beauty in Nature.
