Leonardo Dicaprio – A Great Role Model For Me
While there are plenty of people who still think that global warming isn't real, and the Earth is flat, some of them are actually trying to change the world to the better. One of them is Leonardo DiCaprio — the best actor of his generation and passionate environmentalist. He is mostly famous for his roles in “Titanic”, “The Great Gatsby” “Blood Diamond”, “Interception”, “The Wolf of Wallstreet”, “The Revenant” and the recent movie called “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. He is a winner of multiple prestigious acting awards, including Oscar for the role of Hugh Glass in “The Revenant”. At the same time he was building his career as an incredible actor, he was also taking actions on promoting public awareness about environmental issues around the globe.
In 1998, he started his own organization called, “Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. ”, which focuses on protecting vulnerable species and wild land. Now, the foundation is working in four areas: vulnerable species, wild lands, oceans and climate change. He also launched Production Company to create films with environmental themes. For example, documentary film called “The 11th Hour”, about our impact on the planet and how we can fix it with modern technologies. In 2017, he was designated as a UN Peacekeeper, which allowed him to take an action on achieving one of the UN's 17 sustainable development goals aka combat climate change. His genuine concern about it makes me feel bad for not trying hard enough to do the same.
Even though, he encourages me and millions of other people to take small steps on changing the climate situation. For example, in 2017 he wasn’t one hundred percent vegan, but he slowly changed his lifestyle in that direction starting by reducing beef of his food ration. And this year in 22nd of May it had been confirmed that he is vegan. In addition to that, he is an investor of vegan meat brands. And I am pretty proud to say that I am trying my best to follow his lead. And I am doing so by eating more organic food and slowly inhabiting zero-waste practices. I can’t say that I am good at it, but I am trying. It is great to remind myself that if it wasn’t my obsession on “Jack” from “Titanic”, I would have never thought about our planet issues and my responsibilities about it.
That’s why Leonardo DiCaprio is a great role model to look up for and I am a big fan of his both on and out stage work.
